| Show IOWA conference the iowa conference of the church ot of jesus christ of latter day saints convened at hampton franklin county iowa in the baily opera house bouse commencing on saturday november ath at io 10 a in there were present elders samuel G spencer president of the northern states mission otto johnson Job president of the iowa conference levi A colvin thomas L wallace isaac coon james D coon myron A holgate conrad J smith david A robi so son n david rishton and daniel J mcrae elder spencer pres presided idedo the first meeting was occupied by the elders in giving in their tl air report sno one being present but bub the elders each felt well in his labors and like going on with all his might for the promulgation of the gospel the elders were encouraged by elders spencer and johnson Jo huson at the afternoon session elder robison spoke upon the subject of faith elder C J smith followed on repentance elder spencer then spoke upon faith and works at the evening session elder mcrae spoke upon the subject ot of baptism and elder isaac coon treated upon the holy ghost elder johnson conference president also spoke a short ing the plainness of the Gosp eland that no man can reject it i il he accept the bible as it reads sunday november fth at the morning session elder colvin treated upon the apostasy apo app stacy showing how the savior and his kiis apostles were slain and the saints overcome also how the people have transgressed the laws changed the ordinances and broken the everlasting covenant as predicted in isaiah chapter elder holgate spoke upon the restoration of the gospel he showed that the kingdom of god is to be established in the latter times daniel 11 44 and that the gospel has been restored as predicted in revelation 14 67 in the sunday affer afternoon noon meeting elder so G spencer spoke upon the subject what is mormonism all his statements being substantiated by bible proof following elder spencer elder johnson bore a strong testimony to the truth of the gospel in the evening meeting elder spencer occupied the time upon the birth of the water and of the spirit his text was john 3 5 he showed that no man can get into heaven without baptism no matter how men turn or twist they are still confronted by the saviors words except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god 11 the priesthood meeting convened on monday november ath at 8 a in through the kindness of mr A M bailey the meeting was held in his parlor there was a very good leeling feeling among alland elder spencer gave some instructions which it carried out will be the means of doing much good the vote was unanimous to sustain the leaders of the church as sustained at the last general conference of the church in salt lake city samuel G spencer was sustained as president preside nf of and eugene S hart as clerk ot of the northern states mission also levi A colvin as president ot of and daniel J mcrae as clerk ol of the iowa conference the sacrament was administered by elders johnson and colvin in the evening as we all sat chatting in mr baileys parlor we were treated to a little surprise by being invited into the dining room where we surrounded the table and partook ol of some of the luxuries of life which had been prepared by mrs bailey whose hands are ever ready to do us a kind act we highly appreciate the kindness shown the elders by both mr and mrs bailey they befriended us when all others seemed against us mr bailey gave us the use of his bis opera house free of charge to hold conference in we know that they shall in no wise lose their reward the elders are all enjoying good health elder otto johnson has been released from his labors as president of the iowa conference to return home the elders have been appointed to labor as follows levi A colvin and daniel J mcrae des moines iowa isaac coon and jdavid david rishton sioux city iowa thomas D wallace and conrad J smith waterloo black hawk county iowa myron A holgate and james D coon knoxville marion county lowa iowa david A robison and a new elder who is to join him webster city hamilton county iowa DANIEL J MCRAE clerk of conference |
