| Show written for this paper FROM EAST TENNESSEE BLOUNT COUNTY tennessee february irth 1896 lder ider J B woodward of wellsville myse i have been laboring together polk olk county tennessee we nave have an treated royally while traveling in country having the privilege ot of as aaning ng with the leading and wealthiest sol of the county we obtained access 6 ay and all ol of the school houses bouses and ank at we have done much good in ing prejudice chere ere is one instance I 1 will speak of show that the hand of the lord is I 1 shortened that it cannot save ther er is his ear heavy that he boot pot hear we went to a place about biown own one night and asked if we pd d get entertainment for the night e lady informed us that the gentleman not at home but that he never toed off any body and lor for us to come that at he would be home soon so ing g somewhat tired of our days ney irney we accepted the invitation A ie e after dark her husband came in I 1 1 him our bus ness and who we were 3 that his bis good lady had partly wised us the privilege ot of staying all ht t but he said gentlemen I 1 cant lep you but you can stay down below out ut a quart quarter erg and as we could not k him into the notion of keeping us k ft and went to his good ne neighbor i gabor len 4 a man dont want to keep another n in this country he says 1 I never p any body but my neighbor right there he is a good man he keeps ry body and probably this good gabor abor that we have been directed to j say the same thing about his well when we got to this neigh r gewere we were invited invite din in and when we de our business known and who we re they commenced to throw up all the old grudges that had ever been d against our church or people with help heip of the lord we were able LO 10 iwer their questions satisfactorily brally by twelve o came and we re e shown where we were to sleep att at morning they did not seem quite fitter itter towards us and asked us to resin with them that day as it had owed a little during th the night so sa gladly accepted and as it was too set to 10 work out doers doors we had a very iad chance to talk to them and we tede e good use of our time twelve adock ock that night rolled around a again aiu life next day we had a ta talk I 1 k w with t th the batleman cat leman th t would not keep us and proffered proffered roff ered to let us hold meeting in his etise e so we accepted the proposition iad gained many friends we then ilot t back to the place where we had bad lapped ped the two previous nights and ayed ed with them two more nights thus lining gitig four days and nights in ail they pressed essed us at first as you mormons cormons Mor mons ot at last they would address us as pother ther judd or brother woodward fid the old gentleman even cut off some the buttons off from his clothes and dye to 10 me as I 1 needed a couple in ader r to share his bis friendship and good ihl I 1 towards us now we think both unities alies are very good goad investigators fad we expect to see the huits fruits ol of our ebors ors in w the near future e have just closed this polk coun and we are on our way to madison bunty ty north carolina where we ex et to open up a new field of labor I 1 would like to give a hint to the elders who are returning home and those who are still in the field not to promise the people that they will write unless they calculate to do so for it makes it quite humiliating for the elders that have to travel after them we are sorry to inform your readers that we have had to give up our worthy president J R halliday on account of the i iness of his mother elder J H hart succeeds elder ha liday by permission I 1 will send you a copy of a letter received from a greene county man one of whom I 1 loaned my book ot of mormon to it reads as follows greenville tennessee august 27 th 1895 elder robert R Judd Dear sir I 1 have been able to read and reread the book of mormon have given it a critical examination and can say I 1 have been greatly interested in it the historical part being to me entirely new while the prophetic or theological teachings are the same as the bible so all in all I 1 see much to admire and nothing to condemn with many thanks for the loan of the book lor for so long a time I 1 am yours in the fellowship of christian love R N collom thanking you for the good tidings that comes regularly with the NEWS I 1 am yours truly ROBERT R JUDD |
