august ath 1864 1854 in 1861 she accompanied her parents to dixie and returned to this eity city in the year 1866 she was married to joseph W earl november 1875 she moved with her family to south weber in august 1885 where she resided until the time of her death leaving a husbard hus baad five sons and four daughters to lament the loss of an affectionate wife and loving mother and a faithful latter day aay saint it was in the sacred home circle that she shone the bright brightest estand and where her influence as a woman was waa most moat valued the funeral occurred at al the south weber ward meeting house on the of april and was attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives deou cov 1 WILLIAX WILLIAM DAVIS WALES april 9 1896 on wednesday april 1 1896 the people lof of wales walea were called to mourn the loss of one of their most respected citizens william davas sen who died ol of pneumonia he vm was he be son of thomas and jemima jefim a Davi sand was born in merthyr Glamorgan shire south wales may 13 1847 in 1856 he come came to this country with haw harrits par rits they remained in pennsylvania until 1860 when they came to utah coming directly to wales where they have bave lived ever since brother davis was married to maria rees in 1868 he leaves his wife ten children and three grandchildren to mourn his untimely death about six weeks ago be buried one of his bis daughters wife ot of elder james who is now on a mission sister left lefi her infant child in the cara of her mother who is almost heartbroken over the loss ot of bolit bohi husband and daughter brother davis hold held the office of a Re seventy venty he was a faithful laith ful latter day saint and wise was always prompt in doing his duty duly HELENA REES BEES REBECCA MORGAN MOKOAN DAVIS died aled at willard city utah april 5 1896 of bright le a disease of the kidneys rebecca morgan wife of the late richard ardt J davis Ae deceased ceased was born january 30 1828 at vardra parish Glamorgan ganshird shire south wales she was the daughter of lewis and margaret morgan in 1849 she married richard J davis of the rhondda valley and in 1850 they joined the church ot of jesus christ of latter day saints and in 1853 they left parents relatives and friends braving a per perilous flous journey by sea and land to mingle with their co religionists in their iid adopted opted home in the far west arriving in utah they settled in 1854 at willard where she continued to reside U up to the time of her death she bore leight eight children six of whom grew up and marii married ed and live five of whom are still living her living grandchildren number twenty four and she ahe has two great grandchildren throughout life she has endured many privations incidental to a newly settled country ind and among a people unpopular in ID the world but her courage and her faith never waived her neighbors found la in her a friend ever ready to help in time of need in sickness she was especially ally helpful often serving as an nurse durse tor TO about two years she has been about the house but little and dur during i ng the last six months she has been confined almost entirely to her bed through it all she was patient and even cheerful all hat laith and skill could do for her was done but her days on earth being numbered expired on sunday at am a m she passed peacefully away A large number of relatives friends and neighbors attended the funeral services and appropriate remarks were made by elders james J chandler john L edwards and wm lowe after which her body was conveyed to its resting place where it awaits the real reanimation that shall take place in the resurrection of the just THOMAS SMITH died at parowan carowan Pa rowan utah april 3 1896 of old age thomas price smith he was born bom at Deer huret burst Gloucester shire england november 6 1806 was the son of william and sarah P smith bredon worcestershire england said william smith being the son of job snaith smita which job smith was the son of job smith the first who was born at aston aaton worcestershire in 1722 who with his successors afterwards lived at bredon Bre dona in early life he thomas was a farm laborer earning very small wages ranging from one to two dollars per week without board with which income however heat the age of 21 married a young widow named pritchard and sealed in his native parish pariah prom listening to his mothers reading of the scriptures when a child he early acquired an interest in matters of religious concern and in 1836 or 1837 joined himself to the society of religious worshipers called united brethren which afterwards became famous in the history of president woodruff hesbon became a zealous preacher in that society and many remarkable ceney cenes of religious conversions and angry opposition are remembered as following his hia earnest earliest and powerful appeals to the people of his native village to repent and believe in april 1840 apostle woodruff brought the gospel and the honest and earnest of those brethren opened their ears and hearts to receive it my father was one among the first to receive the birth of water during that month his hia wife having died and his three children being distributed among his relatives he was soon called out as a missionary sio nary andin worcestershire staffordshire and warwickshire Warwick shire raised up many branches of the church being assisted by such men as david MOPS now of st Geo george geoage ige john galley gailey and others who have now gone behind the scenes in 1813 he married again but continued his successful labors as aa a missionary in the counties named until about 1847 or 1848 when he be received a call by the spirit t to seek another field of labor and that thai in a region he had bad never seen so leav leaving ing his family in the care of those he had bad already baptized he took up a journey of borne bome two hundred miles north ward to the city of norwich county of norfolk england landing there alone and without any introduction or acquaintances he soon obtained friends and interested listeners which enabled him to rent a hall and commence public preaching of the latter laiter day faith to the surprise ol of nearly every one and the joy of many who listened and obeyed it being the first introduction of the new faha in that part of england curl curiosity as well as an desire for information drew diew large crowds to listen and many believed and seeing the hall was too crowded for foi the congregation a gentleman named winfield made sri an offer to him to build a hall or chapel tor for his use which was shortly done as aa also a dwelling adio ad loining ining in almost the heart of the city of or inba inhabitants blumis the norwich branch of the church of J jc christ of latter day saints soon beca numerous and many men of tu capacity joined to help scatter the 9 ae 9 adt 4 W in the surrounding country unto branches of 1853 he immigrated to utah the first company of saints moved byth perpetual emigrating fund company remaining in salt sale lake city one y year 1 then moving south by tho the counsel of the leaders to iron county taking up ida his final anal residence in summit in that county he afterwards moved to Ree reedville kville kane county and subsequently to paro waln although located in a part ot of the territory where money was scarce h he in managed to save quite large sums to send back to england to assist poor poo families to emigrate be besides idea raising 4 tt very large family his name his revered by many of 66 1 inhabitants of Utah who received abe tt 1 gospel under his preaching and who w yet alive he was held in high app reri tion ion by his bis brethren in the where he lived the
