Trussell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Trussell of Clearfield, was outstanding in volleyball, basketball and track with the Lady Falcons. Trussell was also selected as a member of the Converse Coaches team as an honorable mention. She even made the USA Today team as a honorable mention. Basketball is where Joy excelled the most however, enough that she will continue her athletic career in it at Ricks College in Rexburg, Ida. This past winter in basketball, Joy helped her school to another state championship. When it was all said and done, Trussell had earned numerous honors along the way. She was named to every and team available. Eventually she was team picked on the and a short while later was selected Warden stood out in three sports at Davis High and they included football, wrestling and baseball. When I was involved with the drugs, I lost touch with these areas and it hurt schooling out and get my degree, By KEITH DUNCAN CLEARFIELD Every indication surrounding J.C. VonCollins comeback from drug addiction says this fall ought to be a nightmare for opposing offensive backs in the Western Athletic Conference. After all, J.C. knows what nightmares and tedious times are now, so its time to dish a little of it around. The former Clearfield High football star will be entering his senior year at Brigham Young University this fall, a season that ought to and will probably turn out like the one he had his senior year at Clearfield. It was then that VonCollin went ape man on his fellow Region One competition and starting raising the eyebrows of college scouts. Anyone who saw him play one late October night in Roy, will not forget how he gobbled up anything that moved. It was an awesome sight as the Falcon linebacker was credited with 26 unassisted tackles and was certainly a household name with as many times as the public address announcer credited his name. I feel great and Im hungry for everything to get started, said the Cougar linebacker, Im - . ready. Is there any question about his return from rehabilitation and a serious scrape with drugs? J.C. says absolutely not. Its a relief and probably more of an accomplishment that Im over the drug stuff, said J.C., When I left the rehab center I set some goals for myself and one by one Ive knocked every one of them off. Things like ridding myself completely of any old habits, being a better person, being reinstated back on the football team and every other goal, no matter how large or small. With every goal met, life has gotten that much better. Many folks like what they see in J.C. right now. In recent weeks, VonCollin has visited old friends at his former school and those friends see the same kind of renewed spirit and determination as this writer saw. VonCollin is back. Friends are important to VonCollin right now, and in fact, hes found through this entire experience just who his real friends are. The team supports me and the coaches are behind me too, said the football great. Its been a time when I really found out who loved me and who really cared. Ive lost some people in my life who I thought were close to me, but I dont need them anymore. me. Mentally and physically Ive never felt better than I feel right now. The impact this is all going to have on my football, is going to be incredible. Mentally Im very strong right now. VonCollin said he was happy the police got involved when they did, or like J.C. said, it could still be happening. The former Clearfield High star hates to think what life would have been like, not being able to finish out his football career at Brigham Young University. To sum up VonCollins comeback, the guy always wanted to get an education and play football, but never as much as he does right now. His character has grown and his attitude is right where he wants it. I got a letter the other day from a guy in Ogden, who I havent met yet, who is behind me all the way. Coach (Lavell) Edwards couldnt really do much through this thing, but hes always been there to keep me standing up. I got a postcard from him yesterday, telling me how proud he was of me for sticking in there and doing everything I could do to get back on the team. Without my familys support, I couldnt have made it back. Theyve really rallied around me, especially my mom and dad (Robert and Mary VonCollin of Clearfield). VonCollin says his dealing with the Perco-da- n drug helped him to lose touch with reality, which ultimately could have severely done him in. There is so much more to life than athleFootball wont last tics, said VonCollin, forever and when it ends Ill have to be ready for whatever life gives me. I want to finish my another state tournament, being 4 in league play and mired in a 2-- slump. VonCollin says he loves playing at BYU, caling the feeling of playing in front of 65,000 fans incredible. You can bet the excitement will increase come this fall when the Cougars host Pittsburg and eventually travel to Texas to play the Longhorns and also Texas Christian University. VonCollin waited his turn at BYU through four years (including one redshirt year) and finally last year stepped in as a starting linebacker. He called the experience of playing with Shawn Knight and Jason Buck as one of the best experiences of my life. Im sincerely looking forward to the future, said J.C., Ive worked too hard and come too far, to throw it all away. Its time to go forward.
