The two brothers have always been a talent together on the basketball floor, from their younger days until today. Bracken played football, which Brad hasnt done. Bracken had an performance this past season as he stole nine passes from his defensive back position. Both of the brothers play baseball where Bracken holds down second base and Brad roams in the outfield. all-st- ar They root for one another Both Bracken and Brad have a By KEITH DUNCAN competitive spirit about them that distinctly sets them apart, said one Clearfield High coach. They hate to lose. Hansen likes the two brothers work qualities, calling them hard workers and never ones to mope around in practice." Bracken and Brad understand the team concept better than most and they work to that end, said Hansen. I probably respect that attribute about them more than anything else. JVfy heart beats high for either way both play. I know thats not possible, she smiled, But it would be nice. Complications even brew for Joan, the mother. Shell decide, as shes already done, where to go on Friday nights. So there it is, the tale of family hearts that will be tugged in all directions when Davis meets Viewmont this coming Tuesday. Some will want that game to go a definite way, and if it doesn't go their way, theyve lost. Some will go home winners, too. But it appears the Robison family will have a winner no matter w hat happens. Juh'nn Robison Dad coaches Davis, daughter likes Vikes A selection of words like those above, can BOUNTIFUL usually say it better than anything else attempted. The feelings that Jalynn Robison, a sophomore at Viewmont High School, tried to convey are for real and become reality on Tuesday, Jan. 20, when her schools basketball team meets head on with the team that her father, John Robison, coaches. There will be plenty of emotion that evening in Viewmonts gym, but none more meaningful than that shared by this daughter and her father. Jalynn has always been the No. fan of her father and his chosen career. When he mentored at nearby Bountiful High, no one bled red and gray deeper than she. Nearly eight years ago, Coach Robison moved north to coach at Davis High School and Jalynn naturally turned her loyalties the Darts way. When Robison was named the head coach at Davis High prior to last seasons beginning, no one was prouder than this coaches daughter. But the Robison family continued to live in Bountiful through the change of coaching assignments, and it was inevitable that someday Jalynn would be attending a high school different than that where her father coached. Of course that time has come where Jalynn attends Viewmont, and is quite content to be among friends and root for the Vikings as a pep club member. But things can get a little complicated, especially when a daughter and father are as close to each other as these two are. Shell be sitting with friends rooting for Viewmont to stampede the Darts in a crucial Region Four game for both schools, but all the while loving dad and wishing him well. Jalynn, wholl turn 16 shortly, is happy to be a Viking and be among friends shes grown up with throughout her youth. But she did have a choice at one time to follow dad to the school .1. when', he coached. , . When I was younger, I assumedid someday be attending Davis High School because of the fun and friends I came in contact with while attending dads games. But as I got older and started attending some Viewmont games with my friends, I knew that is where I was supposed to be. My father and I have such a good relationship that no matter how big the game is, we know it's school against school, not father against daughter, contributed Jalynn. Jalynns friends understand the situation and have always been supportive, even enough to follow her to a Davis game when their own school wasnt in action. Dad has such a great personality that my friends enjoy coming over and talking to him, they really like him, she said. I want my father to win in anything he does, just because hes my dad. If Viewmont wins, hell be happy for me and if Davis wins, Ill be happy for him, Jalynn stated. Robison, the coach, says his daughter has always been supportive of his coaching, hardly ever missing a game. As Jalynn got closer to attending high school, however, Joan and I could see her thinking aloud of how she wouldnt be able to see my team play. The question was eventually asked aloud. But the situation was handled quite well, mainly because we made the decision that her priorities should be toward her own school, the school she planned on attending. So far its worked out quite well, even though Jalynn does miss some of the friends she made while attending our games in Kaysville, said Coach Robison. The father-coac- h at one time contemplated moving his family closer to Davis High, but like then and now, couldn't see uprooting his family from a neighborhood thats been good to them, and schools he calls excellent. One thing is for sure: If Jalynn had a wish, shed ask to be a part of the scheduling committee for high school sports in Davis County. The first priority would be to schedule Davis and Viewmont basketball games on different nights so she could see 1 Bracken Larsen soars for jumper. . . . Davis Highs John Robison and his daughter, Jalynn , may be on opposite sides this Tuesday night when the Darts meet Viewmont in a Region Four basketball game, but they'll be rooting for each other in their own way.
