Show February IS, tiii: jomtN.u. 11)5G Committee Suggests Dike Study In Farmington Bay Area Project On October 2G, It an advisory commitee to the Utah State Itoad Commission was organized for the j)urjose, as set forth in House llill No. 1 r;i which was enacted into law, of investigating the feasibility and advisability of the construction of a dike across the eastern portion of Croat Salt Lake to create a tourist highway, and taking into consideration the development of a fresh water lake. The following members, all residents of those counties adjoining Cieat Salt Lake on the east, were appointed: Mr. Charles Whitworth, Box Elder County; Mr. Linn C. Baker, President, Associated Civic Clubs of Northern Utah, Weber County; Mr. Grant E. Burns, Davis County Planning Director, Davis County; Mr. D. C. Houston, Salt Lake County; and Mr. Tom C. Heath, Engineer for the State Road Commission. Mr. Burns was elected Chairman. After much study and consideration, the committee has recommended that the State Road Commission employe an engineering firm to summarize and evaluate the multitudinous reports and studies that have made during the past years, to determine which of the factual material may be used, in the light or recent technological engineering developments, and to indicate the types of studies that would have to be made before a satisfactory conclusion could be reached. The committee also reached a preliminary conclusion, in the light of its study, that consideration of the project should be limited at present to determine the feasibility and advisability of a proposed dike to formulate what has been known as the Farmington Bay Area Project with the proposed northern dike running generally from Syracuse Point to the north end of Antelope Island. The committee proposes to have its study completed by July 1, 1D5G.
