Permits for all districts will he sold on a first come first served basis, either by mail or in person. Applications are to be made at the Deer Permit Sales Office in the city shown in the 1955 deer hunting proclamation for each of districts where the twenty-fiv- e special permits were allocated by the Utah Board of Big Game Control. Anyone applying must be sixteen years, old or older and must first possess a state big game or combination hunting and fishing license. The application must include residents. By law it is illegal for any person to possess more than one one special deer permit in any calendar year. The department said this ruling does not mean that a hunter cannot purchase another tag which allows taking a doe deer on any one of ten regular license two deer areas scheduled for hunting this year. Such tags on any of these ten areas shown in the proclamation are considered extra and may be purchased at designated stations from the beginning of these hunts, October 22, until each ends. These are not considered special permits. Two deer special permits w'ere scheduled by the Board for three hunting units. These are the Antimony, 10(H) permits; the Henry Mountains, .5(H) permits; the Basin, r00 permits. The latter is a 5 day notice post season hunt, applications point Vernal. Beginning on the opening day, shooting hours will be from one half hour before sunrise to sunset. The commission! chose the early opening hour for the first day of shooting in pre-ferenee to the noon opening as set! up for the past several years. Other regulations set by the commission for this annual fall shoot included the following: Set the daily bag limit on ducks at nine birds provided three were of the widgeon or pintail species. Also set a possession limit for two or more days of hunting of fifteen birds, with the same inclusion of three pintail or widgeon. In other words a hunter might take nine ducks including three of the bonus species the first day out and the second day kill six more ducks to make a possession limit of fifteen. Bag and possession limit for geese was set at six birds, only two of which may be of the Canadian or dark species. This is a reduction of one bird as against the three of the dark species allowed a year ago. Most geese harvested in Utah are of the dark species and the reduction was made by the commission following reports showing poor production of these birds this year. Full regulations covering the waterfowl season will be shown in the annual proclamation soon to be published. Copies will be available by calling at or writing to Department of Fish and Game Offices, 1590 West North Temple, Salt Lake City. 1 A moderate infection of botulism is again showing up on Utahs duck marshes, according to the Department of Fish and Game. This disease, better known a4 duck sickness, annually occurs to a greater or lesser degree at about this season and declines as cool j weather approaches. The department said well equipped crews in airboats are rescuj ing and treating sick birds. Losses are expected to be small with the present outbreak of the disease offering no serious threat to an ample number of birds for th fall hunting season. : FLUES See that flues and chimneys are clear, clean and tight.
