A spokesman for the School of Sacred Music of Hebrew Union College -- Jewish Institute of Religion said that Mrs. Robbins may well be the first cantor in the history of the Jewish relion. A cantor is a ritual singer, not part of a choir, who assists the Rabbi with services in a synagogue.
