Contests to be at State Fair SALT LAKE CITY Something newr in horse show contests in Utah will be brought to the Utah State Fail- Horse Show scheduled for Sept. u:t, Ll and 25 in connection with the lb.14 State Fair, according to J. A. Theobald, state fair secre- tary and manager. Some of the worlds champion riders have filed official entries for the event to be conducted under rules of the National Cutting Horse Association. The horses and their riders will be in national competition as they show their skills in entering a herd of cattle to cut out an animal for shipment to market, doctoring or moving to another pasture. A colorful picture of range work at its best by some of the most highly trained horses in the nation will be presented before the spectators, Mr. Theobald said. The national contest was brought to the Utah showT as a result of efforts by Charles P. Rudd, president of Utah State Fair Horse Show and Ralph L. Jones, vice president and show manager. Participating in the event will be such horsemen as Don Dodge, 1053 champion. He will be riding Poco Lena, sired by the famous stallion, Poco Bueno, winner of contests in Texas and Colorado. Some 3 colorful events are slated for the three-da- y horse show to be preceded each night by 7:30 p. m. by a quarter-hors- e race and a chariot race.
