I.ast Saturday a dinner dance was held at the Officers club to celebrate its reopening after undergoing extensive interior decorating. Cocktails preceded the steak dinner, after which The Aces furnished the music for dancing. Arrangements of bronze chrysanthemums and other fall flowers formed the decorations for the affair, which was planned by Comdr. M. C. Snyder, Lt. It. I). Day, Lt. K. V. Jongeward, and Ens. B. V. Donahue There were ohs and ahs aplenty as guests entered the coral and beige foyer accented with a strikw'allpaper, and ing shawow-lea- f walked through the main lounge repainted in shades of turquoise. The bar, done in varying shades of chartreuse and highlighted with a wallpaper mural of American cities, drew perhaps the biggest round af applause. The group also were enthusiastic over the dining room in warm tones of honey brown with moss green draperies, and the adjoining patio in lime with matchstick draperies. The overall decorating scheme was met with approval by all concerned, and the formal dinner dance was a fitting party for Seveial cocktail parties were held preceding the affair, with Rear Adm. and Mrs. C. II. Gillilan entertaining a large group in the club lounge. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Eccles, Mr. and Mrs. J. Fletcher Scowcroft, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest II. Balch, Col. and Mrs. L. L. Skinner, Col. and Mrs. II. II. Needham, Mr. and Mrs. R. Knox Bradford, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Hone, Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle C. Eubank, Capt. C. A. LaFarge, Capt. and Mrs. Robert Clark, USN, Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Browning, and Mrs. Van Ness Ingram, mother of Mrs. Skinner who is visiting 1953 Low Calorie Applesauce Cake her daughter here. Boettcher, Capt. and Mrs. J. E. Michener, and Lt. Robert Rossen. Cocktails were served in the Whit-ene- r quarters before going to the n, er club. Before attending the celebration, Capt. and Mrs. C. W. Hunter asked Rear Adm. and Mrs. C. II. Gillilan, Capt. C. A. La Farge, Capt. and Mrs. E. II. Wangelin, Comdr. and Mrs. F. F. Lynch, and Lt and Mrs. A. G. APPLESAUCE CAKE FOR DIETERS 134 cups sifted cake flour 12 cup shortening 2 teaspoons Sucaryl Solution 1121 teaspoons cinnamon or 16 Sucaryl tablets, crushed teaspoon allspice 1 1 teaspoon nutmeg egg, beaten 1 14 teaspoon cloves cup unsweetened applesauce 1 teaspoon baking soda Cream shortening and Sucaryl, add beaten egg and applesauce. Mix thoroughly especially if crushed Sucaryl tablets are used. Mix and sift flour,' spices and baking soda; add to applesauce mixture. Pour into greased and floured square cake pan. Bake in moderate oven, 350 F. for minutes. Cut into nine squares for serving. Each serving contains 178 calories each, protein 3; fat 10; carbohydrate 19 grams. If made with sugar each serving would be 266 calories. Serving suggestion: Fruit juice from Sucaryl sweetened dietetic canned fruit may be drained from fruit which is served for another meal, thickened with one teaspoon of cornstarch and flavored with one teaspoon vanilla.
