Show VOL. XXIV JANUARY 6, 1951. NO. 9 News and Features oi Interest to Residents oi Davis County. LAYTON. DAVIS COUNTY. UTAH American Legion posts at Kaysville and Layton have joined in the national American Legion movement known as the Tide of Toys. The idea envisaged in this movement is that of an American child extending a personal gift, in the form of a Christmas toy, to some European child. Under the auspices of the Legion posts, children in the area have been invtied to join the Tide of Toys by giving one of their Christmas toys. The toys given will be assembled here, and then shipped to another collection point to augment those collected from other areas. Toys given by children all over the nation will grow in volume, until, by the time they have reached the final shipping point, they will indeed have comprised a Tide of Toys and friendship a mighty gesture of good-wi- ll from the children of America to those of England, France, Italy, Belgium, and other foreign nations. To lend an individual, 'personal touch to the gift, children have been asked to attach a personal message of greeting, with the name and address of the giver. In this way the child who receives the toy is enabled to respond with his own note of friendship, or expression of thanks and thus the bonds of friendship between two nations are drawn another notch tighter. In these times, as never before, is the need to preserve good-wi- ll among nations apparent. What better, more effective or commendable way than this the Tide of exToys. This is a simple and heart-fel- t change between the children of America and those of other nations and it is something that will long be remembered in the hearts of the children who receive the gifts. Its results will be as profound and as lasting as a dozen Voices of America. The seeds of friendship could not be planted in more fertile territory than in the formulative mind of childhoocL ; - In Layton children may leave their gift at the Layton Cold Storage, or if unable to deliver it personally they may phone 259-- 1 or 54, and the gift will bapicked up by a Boy Scout volunteer. The Kaysville Post has asked that toys be left at the city hall, or at the elementary ' school. The Layton drive will run through Janu-ar- y 14, while, that at Kaysville will be conducted January 8 to 12, inclusive. |
