jimpson sun and war rob ren ot 01 KV tUCkY and in the last jaet named elder bider N 1 T curtis and I 1 are till still warren is one or of the richer counties of kentucky bad there are many rich farmers ta in it who own ow from five to twelve tion hundred dred acres of good land tor for raising earn corn and tobacco of which there has been a super abundance raised this year so tuat that corn has baa been selling as low as one dollar a barrel oa riel the pretty little town ot of bowling green with its ton ten thousand inhabitant its line fine school situates situa teu upon the bill the reservoir on another hill the me riv r barren with its if white pointed painted steamboats pardy en an circling the this picturesque place is ia the county seat eat of warren my companion and I 1 have been treated well in many parts of warren county we have made friends out ot of many 0 of the well wail to do farmers farmer eln in fact we could spend over a mouth month visiting frieada frici frie tda ds and yet not stop over night at be house bouse of the same friend twice elder kimball president pren ident of the southern states stales mission has arranged the labors here so wat bat outwork our work is ie done to in a systematic matle and thorough manner two elders are abent at to labor in a county and we visit from to farmhouse la jim the country leaving a tract fact and converting conversing with the people ana pending night at the housoe different individuals and lo in working city every house la Is visited and a tract left and we try and hold bold meetings everywhere in the county in the differ ent eat churches anti anil schoolhouses so go that before leaving a county it to is thorough ly canvassed canvas bed may ma y families are warmhearted warm hearted an hospitable the ken guckian calls them clever people and aad we have stopped over with many or of these clever people in our labors just a short time back we stopped over night at the house of a rich farmer who owned over twelve hundred acres of fine river land avid through his hie influence we were able to hold three good meetings meeting and by too so doing mode made lots lota of frie friends cov it seemed as if the people do tot too much mu b tor for us ua toree attree families invited us to go anil spend the day and night witta them and when not holding meeting we wa sat around big log fires telling the people about our mountain home and some home of the experiences of ur pa parent routt in crossing the plains 1 he people aked all kinds of questions and bow we irrigate the land as the kentucky farmer depends uvon upon nature to supply him with sufficient water to grow a crop it seems strange to him that our farmers in utah can make a fair living off twenty acres of land while here one man scarcely ever thinks of tending less than seventy or eighty acres of 01 land often we stop over night at the houses bouses of the old soldiers of 61 65 and as aa we sit alt around a huge lug log fire they tell fell us ua some of nt their thrilling experience one old soldier after relating some of his hie experiences perien ces raised his hair which was wa brushed rather luw low over his bis to deal of and they fought side ba side in many a battle and shared the same blankets at night this companion had ayou a younger nizer brother who bad joined the confederate army one day they were to in an engagement with the army and the regiment reKi ment the old soldier and compa companion alon belonged to was ordered to the be runt the regiment poured three volleys of sho tinto the ranks ot of the ademy when suddenly the old sol iier jieri s companion fell on his bis knees and let his gun drop while deep convulsive sobs shook bis bin frame As the old soldier stooped to reload tile his gun sleeping about twenty milk pans ug at once you can imagine the sensation IQ in southern cities the turkey dinner is enjoyed by almost i everybody on christmas and now new yean and at night negroes
