S. Forest Service and by use of National Guard equipment, a capacity bridge was erected to replace the existing stream bed crossing which heretofore rendered passage impractical during the wet season. The bridge was pholly designed and constructed by personnel of Davis county's "C," Company 1334th Engineer Combat BattaYon located at llountiful, under the cap ahle guidance of Captain George K Fadel. commanding ofticer. The budge features the following construction details of a simulated combat bridge: Abutments: While military abut ments are usually of log construction to miiumze time consumption, in this instance, inabsence of logs, the abutments are concrete having a thickness of twelve incehs height of 4 'a feet and width ot twelve feet. The abutments aie founded upon footings seated deep in the stream bed. Span: The bridge has a ton foot span, supported by seven stringers, each 8x12x12. Deck: The deck consists of planks 3x12x14 lad perpendicular to the stringers. The deck will serve as a Headway until sufficient lumber is obtained for laying a diagonal tread.
