The portfolios, to contain not more than 35 pages, will include transcripts of credits, personal histories, samples of work and recommendations. The candidates from the various schools will be interviewed and their portfolios examined by teams of three judges for each category toward the end of March in Centcrfield. The teams will include representatives from the State Dept, of Public Instruction and from Utah colleges. The winners will be announced and presented with their awards at an assembly at Gunnison Valley High School on April 6. The first place winner in each category will be presented with a $200 check and the two alternates with $100 checks. Each winner will also receive a Sterling Scholar pin. The posse members brought 11 of their own snowmobiles up to the search area and at first tried to gain access to the cabin area by snowmobile. But the freshly-falle- n snow was too light and powdery for the conventional vehicles. The Search and Rescue snowcat broke down, whereupon AT&T sent a snow cat from Ephraim and Sports Haven volunteered their snow cat. With the aid of the two borrowed snow cats, the officers were able to go into the cabin and bring out the stranded at 4:56 a.m. on Sunday morning. Sunday search That same day, Sunday, at about 2 p.m. a Mrs. Kinder of Huntington notified the sheriffs office that five members of a party consisting of her family and another family, including a boy had failed to return from a snowmobile trip into a cabin near the MIA Girls Camp atop Skyline Drive. The Emery County sheriffs department had been notified but could not negotiate the deep drifts closing the road from their side of the mountain. Once again, all sectors of Sanpete Search and Rescue were called out. This time all the snow cats used in the earlier rescue had developed mechanical problems.
