There are even effective energy savers that wont cost you a single penny or much effort. This one step can cut your heating costs from 10 to 20 percent, depending on where you live and what you pay for fuel. You can save another 20 percent or so by turning the thermostat from 72 to down 65 degrees by day. Close off unused rooms. Closing the door and off heat in nonessential rooms can reduce heating cost by 15 percent. Dont however, let the temperature in any room get below 40 degrees, because you don't want any pipes in the walls to freeze. Pull shades and draw winndow draperies as soon as the sun goes down and on cloudy days. This will help reduce heat loss that occurs through glass even if there are storm windows or insulating glass. When there is raise bright sunshine, shades all the way and open draperies so that the sun can warm the room and give the heating system a little rest. Even a thin coat of dust on the heating surface acts as insulation and reduces heat output, thereby wasting fuel. Don't open bedroom windows at night. If you like a cool bedroom for sleeping, turn off the heat in the room several hours before retiring and keep the door closed. Keep fireplace dampers closed when there is no fire. An open damper will waste as much heat as a wide-opewindow. If there is no damper or if it cannot be closed tightly, cover the fireplace opening with a sheet of hardboard, plywood, or sheet metal. This will prevent the rooms warm air from flowing up the chimney. Limit the use of kitchen exhaust fan. Dave said that they wanted to move to a small rural community, but preferred to be fairly near a large metropolitan city. They have been delighted with their choice, not only from a personal standpoint, but from a business standpoint as well. Dave pointed out that during the past five years many of their competitors had gone broke due to inferior products, financing, or due to their lack of understanding the market. Although Heat King Stoves was one of the first of their style on the market, they are continuing to grow, while others are not succeeding. Dave thinks it is because Heat King Stoves are superior to others on the market, and because they have a good working knowledge of the current market. Too often, though, we write off the past as worthless. How frequently do we hear a school child complain that history is a subject? How dry do we ridicule the casually w ays of yesteryear w ithout really understanding why they were that way? History is a sweeping, complicated topic. Anything that makes it more understandable should be greeted with enthusiasm. Scott Foresman and new chart, Companys entitled Great Events in World History, simplifies history. Its an illustrated time-lin- e chart that begins with the year 2,000 B.C. and extends to the present. Each century is labeled with the events that moved and shook the world in those days. When did King John sign the Magna Charta? The chart tells you it was in 1215 A.D., a year after Genghis Khan conquered China and 14 years before the establishment of the Inquisition in Spain. The Greeks invented drama about 600 B.C.; the civil service system began in China about 100 A.D.; invented alat gebra Baghdad about 850 A.D.; Russia was founded by the Viking Purik in 862 A.D.; and Marconi flung a wireless signal across the Atlantic in 1901. It's all there on the chart. 283-453- Tami Cox shows off JERRY CRISMON Salesman 424 N. Main, Manti, Utah 84642 Bus.
