Knowledge about the causes of hyperactivity are very incomplete. The trend of thought and treatment of the hyperactive syndrome, however, suggest a thus relatedness, an inborn suggesting constitutional deficiency. Treatment for the hyperactive child is often relatively simple. Medication is sometimes the only treatment required for the problem. However the aid of a counselor may be of great benefit to help the child come to grips with the secondary problems which proceed from the hyperactivity, such as and peer relationships other social or emotional problems. Some things that may be considered if you are considering seeking help for a possible hyperactive child, but are leery of the treatment by medication are: 1) The hyperactive childs behavior problems have a physical rather than a psychological basis. 2) Some may feel medication treatment is an artificial way to treat Obituaries hyper-kineti- c hyperactivity because most of the symptoms manifest themselves in behavior problems again number one above should be considered. 3) Dependency fears can be set aside. One of the key factors to consider if you feel you have a hyperactive child is early treatment. If hyperactivity is diagnosed and treated early in the childs school years it will be of great benefit to the child and treatment will help the child cope better with the demands of school and a structural environment. It is very possible that early discovery could prevent a child from needing some of the special remedial classes heshe might otherwise need to take. If treatment is given early the child very well may stay in the mainstream of the educational process for a very large percentage of these hyperactive children have a high I.Q. and can function very well if managed properly. The child being treated for hyperactivity often no medical longer needs treatment when the adolescent years are reached which gives the child as well as the parents. consolation, to know that lifetime treatment is not indicated.
