Show General Authority Will Preside at Stake Conference Elder Marion D. Hanks, a member of the presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, will be the general authority presiding at all sessions of the Manti Utah Stake quarterly conference to be held Saturday and Sunday, April 15, 16. Stake President Wilbur W, Cox said that also visiting would be Dr. Wayne Shute, regional representative for this region. Marion D. Hanks Elder Marion D. Hanks is one of the general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-DaSaints. He currently serves in the presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Hanks has been prominent in civic affairs, particularly in the field of youth development. He served for several years as a member of the United States Presidents Citizens Advisory Committee on Youth Fitness and currently serves on the Presidents Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. He has been a speaker and consultant at youth conferences throughout the United States and in foreign countries. He has participated in a number of White House Conferences on Children and Youth. In scouting Elder Hanks serves as a member of the regional and national councils and as a member of the National Explorer Committee. He has been awarded the Silver Beaver, the Silver Antelope, and the Order of the Arrow. Among his civic services, Elder Hanks was the first chaiiman of the Utah Committee on Children and Youth, a board member of Weber State College, Southern Utah State College and on the Institutional Council of Snow College. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of BYU and the Church Board of Education. He is also a District Governor of Utah District 542 of Rotary International. Elder Hanks holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah. He has been for many years a teacher, and served for a number of years in the leadership of Temple Square. As a young man he filled a mission for the Church in the northern United States. Subsequently he and his family spent several years in England and Europe in mission leadership there. During World War II Elder Hanks served aboard a submarine chaser in the Pacific. He has visited servicemen at their bases in many parts of the world. Elder Hanks married Maxine Christensen in the Hawaiian LDS Temple. They are the parents of four daughters and one son. Saturday Night Meeting President Cox said that the general membership would be involved in two meetings. The first of these would Ward be held Saturday evening in the Manti Third-Fourt7 Chapel at p.m. Expected to attend this meeting are: stake presidency, high council, stake Young Men and Young Aaronic Women committee member, bishoprics, Priesthood ward Young MenYoung Women committee members, quorum and class presidencies, Seminary administrators, teachers and officers, and all the stake youth ages 8 and their parents. President Cox said the objective of this meeting would be to identify the activation goals of the youth program, the resources available to meet these goals, and those who are responsible for meeting these goals. The Health Department said that parents should take their children to their family doctor if possible or to one of the regularly-scheduleHealth Department clinics. d 20c a copy Annual Miss Manti Pageant Contest In Limelight, Ticket Sales Underway Mavor Ben Kjar and members of the Manti Citv Council were the first to purchase tickets tor the Miss Manti Pageant, but other townspeople will soon have the opportunity to buy theirs as the candidates w ill be selling tickets to tile public during the coming weeks. A special award will be given to the candidate selling the most tickets. The Miss Manti Pageant will be held April 29 at 8 p m. in the Manti High School auditorium The candidates will be sponsored by civic groups and in addition to their performance in the public talent show w ill be rated by the judges on the basis of personal interviews and appearance in swimsuits and evening gowns. Miss Manti and her attendants will appear throughout the area on the Manti Citv float during the summer. In Miss Manti will addition. participate in the Miss Sanpete and Miss Utah pageants. Mini-Bott- le Outlet Mayor Ben Kjar is happily trying to decide from whom he will buy a ticket to the Miss Manti Pageant. Approved by Commissioners Sanpete County could soon have its first mini bottle liquor outlet. The County Commission has granted the operators of Cedar Crest Restaurant, located adjacent to Palisade State Park, permission to apply for a mini bottle license. The license, if awarded, will be the first of its kind held by a Sanpete County business. The license would allow the Cedar Crest management to sell liquor, not in excess of two ounces, and wines, not in excess of one pint, to those who purchase a meal at the restaurant. Lisa Steck, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Steck, Ephraim, and Randy Bradley, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bradley, Manti, have been named Manti Schools third quarter Top Templars. Lisa is president of this years drill team and has also been a member two previous years. Shes also been a member of FFA for two years and was a g soils team. member of the She was a Girls State delegate last summer. Her hobbies include cake decorating, reading, cooking and working with flowers. Her favorite sports are swimming and horseback riding. A senior, Lisa plans to attend college next year. Randy's favorite sport is wrestling. His overall record is 60 wins, 10 losses and 2 draws. He has placed at the regional tournament four years and gone to state four years, placing three years of the four. This year he won the state title. He received the American High School Athlete Medal and Certificate tn recognition of his accomplishments in wrestling. Hes also an outstanding trackman, holding the MHS record for e the race. High attended Boys Slate and is Manti Highs candidate for the Sterling Scholarship award in drafting. state-winnin- In asking for permission to submit an application for a mini bottle license, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence O. Most incumbents have not yet indicated whether or not they will be candidates for Party chairmen, anxious to present a full slate of candidates for the various offices, are in some cases actively seeking recuits. Offices to be filled on the state level include a United States Congressman will who the First represent Congressional District, which includes Sanpete County, a State School Board member for District Seven, which also includes Sanpete County and a State Representat.ve for District 69, which includes Sanpete and a minor part of Utah County. County offices to be filled include two commissioners, one for a two year term and the other a four year term, a sheriff, clerk-audito- r, assessor, recorder, treasurer, attorney and justices of the peace for both the North Sanpete and South Sanpete precincts. The South Sanpete School District will vote for three board members. representing Representative Precinct 1 (the Ephraim 2 and 3 voting districts); Representative Precinct No. 2 (Manti 1 and 3 voting districts), and Representative Precinct No. 3 (Sterling and Manti No. 2 voting districts).
