Dated this 2nd day of May, 1974. s Louis G. Tervort Sanpete County Attorney This year the South Sanpete District is starting a Career Planning Program in all the schools of the district. The program starts out with the World of Work in the elementary grades. The World of Work gives the elementary student a chance to look at what the World of Work is really like. In the 7th grade a career planning folder is given to each student. This folder is theirs but is kept in the counselor's office and will follow the student until he completes high school. The student will keep a variety of career information and research in this folder. A follow through with the folder will show five years after graduation what correlation there is between career choices made in high school and the careers these young adults are pursuing. This spring quarter the Ephraim Junior High is starting this program. The program will run for approximately four to six weeks. During this time students will begin to realize and work toward setting goals, exploring goals, and decision making. The program will be implemented this year in Mr. Robert Andersons 8th grade English classes, in Mrs. Elaine Reid and Mr. Albert Antreis 7th grade Utah History classes. Mr. Rodney Cox will be helping the students as career counselor. In the 9th grade the students will be introduced into a career planning course. This course will provide the student with a chance to research several career choices! (1953)-41-2-1- (1953)-41-6-10- i Improved Oil Profits Are Necessary Reversal cf the profit picture for the oil industry Is the best thing that could happen to end the energy crisis, according to spokesman for the petroleum industry. Oil industry profits have finally broken out of their role, according to D. Van De Graaff, Executive Director of the Utah Petroleum Council. This has two vital meanings to consumers, he adds. It gives companies additional revenues for the production of oil and gas; and it is an essential factor needed to attract outside equity capital to an industry which must spend billions of dollars within the next few years if consumer demands are to be met. Improved profits are reflected in a drilling revival he said, in this country, pointing out a 30 per cent increase in drilling rig activity over the previous year. To be understood oil industry profits should be related to per unit costs; return on investment; or their relative rank with other manufacturing industries, Van De Graaff stated. When you Colleen Nielsen, NEW OFFICERS: Renon Daniels, Secretary; Vice President; Gloria Johnson, President. Sanpete Governor Calvin L. Rampton will make his annual visit to Sanpete County, May 7th, meeting with county, city, and school officials at 9:00 a.m. in the County Courthouse at Manti. Each year the Governor travels the state, meeting with officials to discuss the concerns and problems of local governments, and their relationships and dealings with state agencies. Through these contacts, Golocal-elect- face-to-fa- relate ed ce Rampton hopes to continue state responsiveness to the needs and desires of Utah vernor residents. Governor Rampton will also host a regional conference on facturing. But even more significant to the consumer is the reinvestment patterns of the oil industry. Companies are reinvesting far more than their total profits in developing domestic energy supplies, Van De Graaff said. He pointed to a study which revealed that 30 leading companies invested two dollars in U.S. operations for every dollar earned in profit. Rarely given attention in profit stories are the tremendous outlays made in the oil and gas business, Van De Graaff stated. For example, he said, 100 leading companies earned a total after-ta- x profit of $6.5 billion in 1972. In the following 16 months companies paid $6.9 billion to the federal government for offshore exploration leases. Without this bonus revenue and the billions of dollars paid in taxes by the oil industry all of us would ante up more on an individual basis to our government. As the student registers in the 10th and 11th grades, he can begin to take classes that will relate to his career choices. During these two years it is hoped that the student will begin to narrow down his career choices and start to zero in on one or two in depth. When the student enters his senior year the career folder will be completely discussed with the counselor, student, and parents. The counselor will discuss with the student and his parents job opportunities, colleges and vocational schools. Information will be given on scholarships and financial aid that is available. There are over 40,000 job opportunities available in the United States. Some of these jobs require a college education, many require vocational training, but all require a career choice. The South Sanpete School District wants to give every student enough information to make that choice wisely. Sheep can produce more and heavier lambs and more efficiently than they now are doing say scientists with the Agricultural Experiment Station at Utah State University. In fact, they claim that by applying methods now available and others expected to be available soon, the following ideals may very nearly be reached: (1) ewes begin lambing at one year of age; (2) produce two lamb crops per year; (3) wean at least two lambs per ewe; (4) wean lambs weighing more than 100 pounds each. That means more lamb chops for everyone. to SANPETE-GROW- . . . N BEDDING PLANTS VISIT EARLY FOR YOUR FIRST CHOICE! i We have expanded again and offer a Large Selection of flowers and Vegetables.
