Show EPHRAIM ENTERPRISE MANTI MESSENGER 1974 March 28, Thursday, 3 Obituary Joseph Christensen Joseph William Christensen, 74, died March 22, 1974 of a heart attack at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. This artists sketch shows how the Hotel Utah will look in the spring of 1976 after two wings are built just north of the present hotel, along Main Street across from Temple Square. The two wings will add 180 new rooms to the hotel. In addition, a grand ballroom that will accomodate 1,000 for dinner, a exhibit hall and completely new kitchen facilities are planned. ry LDS Church Announces Plans F or Hotel Utah Addition Dignitaries from the Church Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, officials of the Utah Hotel Company and their guests attended groundbreaking ceremonies Monday, March 11, at the Hotel Utah where a new addition to the world famous hotel is to be built. Spencer W. Kimball, President of the LDS Church and Chairman of the Board of the Utah Hotel Company, operated the excavating machine that turned over the first earth during the ceremonies. The event took place north of the hotel where the new addition will go of up. The theme of the Hotel Utah groundbreaking Monday was Were Getting Better With Age, and was implemented by banners on the groundbreaking site and by souvenir buttons and certificates distributed to those who attended the event. The original hotel, started June 1, 1909 and completed June 9, 1911, was Salt Lake Citys first skyscraper. Mrs. Dorothy Corbin Clark, Republican State announced today that she will seek the Republican nomination for the United States House of Representatives in Utahs First Congressional of Mrs. Clark will campaign on the major issues troubling this country today: the credibility of Congress, inflation, the energy problem and many others. She plans to visit each of the 18 counties in the district many times over the next few months, taking her traveling campaign headquarters trailer to each county, and meeting with the people of the district to learn more about their wishes for better and more honest government in Washington. Mr. Christensen was born Feb. 8, 1900 in Ephraim to Fredric William and Amelia Jensen Christensen. He attended schools in Ephraim including Snow Academy. He farmed with his brother, served an LDS mission to Australia, worked as a carpenter at Brigham City on the hospital and other defence jobs, worked on churches in Ephr al m and Chicago and in Provo at BYU and other building. He married Florence Johnson March 16, 1928 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a member of the LDS Church serving in the Sunday School superintendency, stake MIA counselor, seventies president and was a high priest. He and his wife served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple and also served a stake mission. Survivors include his wife, son and daughter, Mrs. Rex (Thora) Behling, Payson; William J. Christensen, Provo; 12 grandchildren; 1 greatgrandchild. Mr. Christensen was the last of a family of seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Monday, March 25 in the Ephraim West Ward. Also planned are a exhibit hall and completely new kitchen facili10,000-square-f- ties. The present Skyroom, a luxury dining room atop the hotel, will be converted to luxury guest rooms. A new Skyroom is being designed for the top level of the new addition, with a window view planned for all dining tables. The view will include tree-ladTemple Square on one side and the lushly landscaped Church office building plaza on the other. 1 en t: ' Mens Palisade IV Golf Club Sets Schedule At a meeting of the Mens Palisade Golf Association last week the following dates were set up for the summer of 74: April 27th, Saturday morning breakfast for members and their partners; May 19th, Sunand luncheon round of golf; day June 15th, Saturday luncheon and golf; August 4th, luncheon and golf; September 7th, luncheon and golf. At each meet the Ladies Association will be invited and there will be putting, chipping and competitive golf rounds of various kinds. Last year an even 100 men joined the association; this years goal is set for at least 150. The annual dues were set at $6, the same as last year, and all members who participated in the various events were enthusiastic and happy over what they received in return for their membership. The J association is making plans for a new club house at the golf course and various ways of financing were discussed. It is hoped that one can be built by the end of 1975. Some 30 members have volunteered to buy a tree each to be planted this spring. By each tree will be a small cement block bearing the donors name.
