Skunks love these dried figs. 1 have kept this trap set at night from the middle of August until the middle of October. This morning I buried the 19th skunk caught this summer. Added to the 34 1 have caught the past two summers makes 53 skunks caught on this small bridge. Not one of them have had a chance to stink. I saw one get in 30 seconds bubbles caught stopped coming up and he was drowned. The weight of the trap and force of the running water makes skunks helpless. Loren was born in Manti in 1898 and still calls it his home town. 1 was called a Sanpete carrot eater, he said. But I liked Dixie peaches better than Sanpete carrots. In fact 1 soon became and acquainted with one of Dixies peaches, a native of LaVerkin. The next year we were married and have lived in LaVerkin ever since. Mr. Squire was a highway patrolman for 25 years, represented Washington County for 6 years in the Utah House of Representatives and a term in the State Senate. They have been married 62 years. Now if someone can just find enough water for a canal and build a bridge, bait it with dried figs, we may be able to get rid of a few dozen resident skunks. .. by Mu Call Mil jf, In .. I noticed a number of tracks of some small animals using the bridge to cross the canal. Two years ago I set a double spring trap in the middle of this bridge and attached it to a chaip to the center of the bridge. Next mofning the trap was off in the canal. I pulled it up to find a large skunk thit had fallen off the bridge after putting his foot in the trap. As of November 1, 1980, interest will be charged at the rate of 18 percent per annum (l.S percent per month) on any unpaid account balances. Also beginning November 1st, payment will be required at the time of service for all charges under S50.00. If the patient has insurance coverage the hospital will then assist in seeking reimbursement for the patient. Amounts in excess of the S50.00 limit may be billed to the individual patient. These unpaid balances will then be subject to the interest-servic- e charge with a .504 minimum charge for balances under S33.00. but ; Initially this new program may seem difficult it is in the best interest of the general public. These changes are due to the high degree of account neglect &nd credit abuse. Hopefully, this will help eliminate taany of the lingering accounts. The loss of Mantis liquor store may affect more than just those residents with a desire to wet their whistles, city recorder Bill Mickelson said Monday. Mickelson estimates that the loss to the city in revenues may come between S3, 000 and S3 ,500 this year in taxes. We received last year's check on the liquor taxes not too long ago, and I believe it came to right Melba around $3,200. DeMill stated. Mickelson stated that the city had figured on an increase in revenue from liquor sales in the 1980-8- 1 fiscal year and had budgeted an anticipated revenue of $3,500 for this year. In addition to the loss of revenue from sales, the police department budget loses revenue from the liquor control commission, provided to assist with law enforcement in towns containing a liquor store. This is a crucial time of the year," Mickelson pointed out. This last few months from the deer hunt through the holidays are probably the biggest sales of the year, and even if we get the store functioning we will have lost the Enterprise Oct. 9, again, revenue from the hunting season for this year. ... Hansen Thanks , Smokey Bear A Dear Editor, 1 am concerned over the thinking process many individuals have concerning the return of t(ie state liquor store here in Manti. I think it is a wonderful thing for them to lose out on their time limit in having a building in which to have the store. Its a great opportunity now for all concerned citizens to do a great civic duty and show up at the courthouse for their court hearing and oppose such a store in this town. I shouldnt have to tell anyone about the reasons to oppose it but some still havent gotten their thinking hats on about reason. First, they say it brings a tremendous amount of revenue with it so we can hire more policemen to catch those who do so much damage after they leave the liquor store. That to me is not straight logical thinking. All of us know of those individuals who when not under the influence of liquor would never think of stooping to the evils that they do when they have it. All the revenue it could possibly bring to this city could not and will not undo the Page 2 Manti Messenger, Thursday, October 16, 1980 3 YEARS OR MILES AT NO 50,000 EXTRA CHARG3 USED CARS ARE GUARANTEED for up to l YEAR OR 12,000 MILES SUBSCRIBE.
