The contestants must be 16 or older, a Sanpete resident and able to represent Sanpete County throughout the state this summer. The applicants must submit with the inch photographs of blanks themselves in riding outfits. The judges will use the photographs in judging the applicants photogenic qualities. Miss Denton will conduct a queen clinic at the Manti arena on May 28. The contestants are asked to be there, with their mounts, at 6:30 p.m. Theyll be instructed in the riding patterns that will be used in the horsemanship contest. A tea for the candidates has been set for May 31 at 9 a.m. at the Embers Cafe in Ephraim. Theyll model their riding outfits and a team of judges will rate them on appearance and personality. The horsemanship section of the contest will be held that day at 1 p.m. at the Ephraim arena. Other judges will rank them on how well they perform in the various routines. The candidate with the greatest point total will be named 1980 Sanpete as Cowboy Sweetheart. The two with the next highest point totals will be her attendants. The new Sweetheart will be awarded a tiara, a silver buckle and a complete Western riding outfit. Shell also be eligible to tryout for Miss Rodeo Utah.
