' out the house long before and all during the holidays. I Louise Lawrence Christmas Isa Time to Remember by Louise Lawrence Christmas time is many things to many people. To everyone it is a time for remembering. We think of the happy times passed, of and family. The time of sharing and caring. For others it is a sad time, a time of missing loved ones who are gone, and of others who are unable to be with them this Christmas. 1 remember my first look at Santa Claus. I was two and a half years old; we were living on a ranch in Texas. Our neighbor dressed up in a Santa suit with w'hite whiskers, etc. On Christmas Eve there was a knock on the door, I rushed to see who was there. When I caught a glimpse of a huge thing in a red suit and white whiskers, I ran screaming into the bedroom, and refused to come out until my Mother assured me that that big red thing had gone. In the meantime Saflta had removed his suit and whiskers, and had been joined by the rest of his family and other neighbors on the ranch. It wasnt until two years later that I wanted to see Santa again. I remember the huge Christmas tree we always had on the ranch. The homemade decorations, the fun we had making old friends them. The Christmas school programs in the one room school house, the popcorn and cracker jacks. The taffy pulls, and my mothers special divinity candy. I remember how bushel baskets of apples, oranges and nuts would suddenly appear weeks before Christmas. And that heavenly aroma that seemed to float through Marilou Sanders Expresses Cimtwe Uowan " remember other Christmas times shared with my children. Their bright little faces, and their shining eyes as they came bounding into the bedroom to wake up daddy and momntie (very early) on Christmas morning. 1 remember a white Christmas in Japan. How much fun it was sharing our stories of Christmas with our Japanese friends. I remember how excited our house boy was w ith the preparations for Christmas, especially the decorating of the tree and the house. I remember another white Christmas ten years later in Germany. The Germans prepared foi weeks for their Christmas. They made beautiful Christmas decorations for their trees. Many of them were from paper. Some of our German friends brought us some lovely decorations they had made especially for our tree. Other friends brought us delicious Christmas goodies, all homemade. I have a few sad memories as well as the many happy ones. I still remember the first Christmas after my beautiful young daughter died. It w as a sad time for all of us. We still remember how she loved Christmas and her special talent for decorating the Christmas tree, and how she loved buying gifts for everyone. She always remembered the dog, the cat and even the wild animals that happened to be around our home. As with all of you there are too many happy (and some sad) times to remember. But the most important thing is to always remember the true meaning of this special season. This is a time for gratitude. For being thankful for our many wonderful blessings. 1 am grateful for you who are kind enough to read my articles, and to let me know that you enjoy them. appreciate your support in this and in other things that I have tried to accomplish since moving to Manti.
