Show Ju!y 24,2008 THE M AGN A TIMES, v EST VALLEY NEW S, KEARNS POST (omnrnmh ttlt Nathan Tabahhe James 1977 Life is so short and precious! One week ago, I sat at a picnic table in Palisades State Park at 2 in the afternoon talking and laughing with Jim Till. Today, at 2 in the afternoon, I sat in a pew at the First Unitarian Church in Salt Lake City at Jims funeral. Jim was on the Board of Directors of Palisade Pals, Inc, a social worker with Project Turn and a friend. He was only 49 years old. My heart was truly saddened when 1 heard of Jims untimely demise, while yet so young in years. He lived for many years in West Valley City w ith his wife Eleanor and four year old daughter, Becca. His heart just gave out in the mountains and at a place he loved. May he rest in peace! Back to the new ride! It got its first ding at a grocery store parking lot. did I expect anything different? No! It also has no clutch, the first car I have ever owned that did not have a clutch. Old fashwell, almost ioned? No I just dont like an automatic shift. I have no control over the car. Or so I thought. It took me a day or two to get used to driving it, but now I guess it is old hat. I havent thrown anyone through the windshield yet. I I to tried into this ease a lot new drove just shifting game. of cars before I decided on the SUV. I drove Hondas, Pruis, Jag, and Mercedes Benz. Uptow'n cars, cool as cool can be, but none of them fit the needs of a CERT or Red Cross emergency worker. Yeah, I wanted a fancy car to sport around in, but though they were fun to drie, they did not need my needs. Red Cross calls have been quiet. David Neale, Randy Brady, and I responded to the fire on Piper Blvd. in Kearns. We have been training all week, but nothing out of the ordinary. The Lifeguard games were held this past weekend, and I was told they were a success. This is the story of the friendship bread that was not so friendly. Last week, when I left for camp, I filled the small cooler with water bottles I got out of the fridge at the house. I picked up the food basket, small cooler, and purse, and as I headed out the door I nudged the fridge door with my knee hoping the magnetic device would take hold and the door would close. No such luck! I came home to the biggest mess I have ever seen in my life. For three days, this goop had been fermenting in the hot house and a very hot fridge. It popped out of the bag I had it in, wound its way around the fridge coils and down into the veggie bin, climbed up the side, engrossed the bowels of the fridge, and migrated over to the side door, where one is supposed to keep eggs. It looked like a white blob from some Black Lagoon. The odor was of a brewery. I was so angry I ignored it for two more days, hoping it would fix itself.r Now that was very bright. So I finally tackled the cleanup job. My refrigerator is now sparkling clean, and no I dont want any more unfriendly bread mixture. My grandson and I found all sorts of chemical experiments in that fridge. He came to help m, but spent the time laughing not much help for a mess Granny made herself, without any help! I told him I was working on my doctorate in chemistry and these were all intricate experiments only to be handled by me. We chucked everything. He was quite interested in my spirits; he knows I dont drink, but I have this stuff on hand just in case or for medicinal purposes, as my mother used to say. I told him I was doing a very secret chemical experiment and soon would be labeled an expert from Kearns at turning beer, gin, and wine into urine. He just looks at me as if to say, Is she for real? Have great week , to the paramedics! dont do anything you have to explain Later in the area, Andrea Pugmire says let us vote witnout strings attached Salt Lake County Council candidate Paul Pugmire has condemned a recent action of the Salt Lake County Council to require Hogle Zoo to come up with $20 million in private funds before it can access a bond. In a July 17 press release, I dont Pugmire said, know which is more troubling, the paternalistic, atti- tude, or the deceptive way they did it. Pugmires release described his opponent, Michael Jensen, as opposing a public vote and supporting putting the strings on. According to Pugmires release, The requirement to raise private money first came about as a way to allow the Republican majority on the Council to say it support ed a ballot measure while at the same time putting restrictions in place that are intended to make it unlikely ever to be used. As quoted in the release, Pugmire said, This was clearly designed to say one thing and do another. Its exactly the kind of junior high shenanigan that makes people distrust government, especially when there is so much news lately of unethical behavior among government leaders anyway. The people of Salt Lake County are smart enough to consider the merits of the Zoos proposal and decide whether they want to support it. We should be allowed to vote on this straight up, in the same way we vote on other bonding issues, without strings and restrictions.
