Show April 10, 2008 1HF M XGNA'l IMF N F s I 'Al LE NEWS, KF ARS 7 POV1 ENTERTAINMENT King Tut, the Musical to open in Ogden feau'- Empress Theatre uaa)iGgn3' Leatherheads . Rated' PG-l- i language 6 out of 10 far buef strong tnck Nathan By Actor Director George Clooney is definitely tdlented at what he docs. He is able to sell whatever film he is in o! cd u ith and make it seem better than it really Such is the case with is Leathei heads Leatheiheu h is a romantic comedy set in the early days of American fifotball (w hen the helmets were made ol leather ) Jimmy "Dodge" Connelly (George Clooney ) is the team captain ot the Bulldogs in the struggling pi o football league in 1925 jimmy is determined to gu.de his team fiom bar biawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge persuades a college football star to join Ins ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his lat- moe will help the struggling sport finally capture the country's est attention. With the lure of big money, Dodge is able to persuade Carter Rutherford (lohn Krasinski) to drop out of college and join the team. Carter is not only a star football player who Can outrun his completion, but he is also a W I w ho national hero of captured a platoon andedly of German soldiers. (Renee Zell on Lexie-Littlet- Live Theater V. assigned tp get Carter's real inside story about the capture of the German soldiers To get the story, Lexie must tra cl w ith the team, and, in time, both Carter and Dodge fall for her. Only one will win her lose as the fourth quarter comes to an end The film's three stars are w on derful, especially John Krasinski. whom you might recognize as Jim" in the TV show The Office Renee Zellweger is as charming and sneaky aSeer, and George Clooney pulls out another great comedic performance. It is because of these three actors that Leatherheads comes out on top in the end The plot of the film just really isn't as interesting as it might sound To a huge sports fan like me, it w as kind of disappointing for the filmmakers to not use more sporting action and information about football in its adolescent years. It w ould ha e been much more entertaining if they had mixed in a lot more sports diama and excitement to go with the romantic comedy, because the romance scores a field goal only when it needs a touchdown to win Not that the film isn't worth seeing. It is oneof the better films out in theaters 'right now, and w ith the summer mo ie sea- son just around the coiner Leatherheads will help you enjoy what th summei has to offer a little bit more. 1 1 www.halecentertheatre.org Coming up Annie Get Your Gun, April Empress Theatre 9104 2700 S. 14-M- (801)347-737- 3 "Work in Piogiess" ( W IP), comedy improx for whole family, every Fn., Sat., 10 pm.
