Billboards around the state serve as a quick reminder to parents that one of the times they should appear to be brick walls to their children is when the kids want to drink alcohol. "Research show's that disapproval from parents is the number one reason kids choose not to drink" said Larry V. Lunt, Chairman, Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Its primary goals are to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking and provide them with a proven skills to communicate focused with their children about This remaining alcohol-free- . campaign runs through June 2007. It appears adolescence and menopause make lousy companions. n Citizens of this fine township expressed concerns about graffiti, salt strewn on lawns by the removal County's snow crews, strip mall clean up and other issues, such as emergency operation implementation. Most in attendance are very proud of their community and the fact that a lot of senior citizens reside in the area. In fact, many have spent their whole lives in Kearns, where they raised their children and watched the trees they planted grow tall. Mortgages are paid and bedrooms have been turned into offices. There is always room for improvement and there were ideas on how to many improve the community. One item worth mentioning is the proposal that the Kearns Senior Center become involved with an after school program for youth. The activities would be sponsored as they are for the senior population in the daytime. AH issues were taken under advisement: it will be interesting to see what comes of this. It was a positive meeting. soutli-wester- Obituary 1934 2007 Robert John Bevan passed aw'ay February 25, 2007 from cancer. Bom to John Robert Bevan and Edthye Miller Bevan, August 7, 1934. Married Maxine Wimmer, divorced; married "Lady" Marilynn Gordon Olsen on December 24, 1980 in Salt Lake County, Utah. Employed by Kennecott Copper for 28 years as a welder. While employed at Kennecott Copper he served as a member of United Steel Workers of America. Bob w'as elected as a union officer. Served on the Board of Directors at Garfield Smelter Credit Union and was chairman of the board for five years. He later pursued a career in Real Estate working for Boone Newsone Realty He later w'as general manager of Century 2 Chairman of the Education Committee for the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. Chairman of Century 21 Brokers Council and a member of the Professional Standard Committee of the Salt Lake Board. He later served as General Manager of the Century 21 Preferred. After leaving real estate he worked for the Salt Lake County Library System. Bob loved to go deep sea fishing in Mexico where he won several Bill Hempel awards. His true passion was oil painting which he enjoyed up until the time he lost his eyesight He especially loved Christmas Eve when all his children and grandchildren would gather for a large buffet Grandpa always prepared his special marinated roast beef. Grandpa Bevan set the mark "high for all his children and grandchildren to follow. He was a member of the Point Christian Church and looked forward to Sunday's and Thursday night Bible Studies. The church was filled with mourners as people came from far and wide to pay their respects to a gracious lady, Rita. She was the rock of our group and will be sorely missed. We have ' to revamp some of the songs, but we are getting a program eady to perform for the community.
