Neighborhood Watch programs are one of the ways the public can help relieve crime in a community. In some cases, it has brought down crime drastically. Neighborhood Watch also incorporates a Mobile Watch. The Mobile Watch involves two individuals going around a neighborhood to prevent crime. In neighborhoods without a lot of crime. Neighborhood Watch programs have been known to keep crime from developing. While in neighborhoods with crime, it can alleviate crime that is present already. For more information on Neighborhood Watches a Sheriffs contact Department. Those not interested in Neighborhood Watch programs are still asked to keep and eye out. As summer approaches, Magna police expect both vandalism and car burglaries to go up. During winter the police dont receive as many calls involving vandalism, because vandals usually spend their time indoors. Most graffiti happens at night in the summer, while property owners arent around. To prevent graffiti into the summer months keep houses well lit, dont park cars on streets if it can be avoided, keep valuable items in cars hidden, and don,t hesitate to call the police when you see something suspicious. Magna detectives Miguel Miranda and Shane Chandler said sometimes calls on suspicion turn out to be nothing to worry about but its best to call just in case. Its rare that graffiti criminals are caught. According to Magna detectives, thats one reason why suspicious calls need to go up. If a call isnt made and it is something to 'worry about nothing will be done. After graffiti takes place, the police have agencies that will help clean it. Its best to know the people and cars in neighborhoods. When an unknown car spends a long time in the neighborhood or people are out very late, 3 a.m. for example, dont be afraid to make a phone call to the police. Individuals out late in dark clothing should also be looked out for. Most importantly, residents should know their neighbors. Detective Chandler mentioned a Taylorsville family that was on vacation not too trailer long ago. A showed up at the house one day and neighbors assumed it was the family moving out. In reality, the home was cleared out by burglars, loading household items into the trail- by FRANCIE AUFDEMORTE Magna Times With glamour, skill and razzle dazzle the Cyprus High School Spinnakers entertained audiences at their The team annual review. came together for one last ul er. Eastern parts of Magna are host to the most graffiti in the area, however, it could happen anywhere. Car burglaries in Magna are most abundant around apartment buildings and park and ride lots. Although, they also happen all over the town. Magna is a good community, said Miranda, but it has its pockets. Car burglaries dont just happen when a car is left unattended. In some cases, cars are stolen while the victim is held up at gunpoint. If this ever happens Magna detectives recommend letting it go. Too many people try to save cars, said Miranda. The best thing someone can do in this situation is to be the best witness. Pay attention to the facial features of the car thief, be able to identify any weapons they have. Also know your license plate number. In Magna during the winter, detectives receive about 5 to 6 calls a night. During the summer this number doubles. The police are service oriented, the majority of calls are routine. Usually they involve something that is easily solved. The most volatile calls the Magna Sheriffs receives are usually domestic disturbances. Often drugs or alcohol is involved. If you have reason to be suspicious of domestic violence, dont hesitate to call. Meth labs have gone down in Magna. While they used to be quite abundant, the police have been cracking down on methamphetamines. There are still some around. However, due to enforced restrictions of ingredients the labs have declined. Suspicion of meth labs and other drug related crimes should be reported. To reach the Magna performance.
