These are the latest buzz words in education and they are creating a stir for some. NCLB stands for No Child Left Behind, federal legislation that requires that ALL students must be able to read, write and compute at a level expected of their grade level by 2014. AYP is Annual Yearly Progress. It requires that a report card be given by state and local school districts on how schools are piogressing and if they have made progress during the year. You may find this report on the Granite Disti let's web site: gran- iteschools.org The repoit includes 40 areas of progress. If a school falls short oi the benchmark m cen one area, the entire school leceives a No for its adequate yeaily progress. An example would be that if less than 95 of one small group of students shows up to take the test, the entire school receives a No for adequately yearly progress. Every effort has been made by the schools to have students participate in the tests. If you do not have children in the Granite School District, but want to know how your tax dollars are being spent at your local schools, contact the principal and they will share all the informrtion with you.
