Bear Lake - Casting spoons off the Bear Lake State Park marina, in the morning and evenings, has been producing some nice cutthroat trout fishing. Some shore anglers are also catching cutts by casting spoons off First and Second points. Boat anglers are catching cutts at 10 - 30 foot depths while trolling off the Bear Lake State Park marina, First and Second points, and off Rainbow Cove. Best lures have been rapalas and spoons. Some lake trout are also being taken using the same methods as for cutthroats. Water temps, are in the upper 40s. As water temps, warm, fish should become more active and anglers should start trolling at faster speeds. Lake levels are high and all launching ramps are open. East Canyon Reservoir - Scars on fish are caused by anchor worm the fish are still good to eat. Fishing from shore is fair to good using orange, rainbow and various other power baits. Anglers using worms have found some success in the stream that enters the reservoir. Fishing has been good trolling from boats using needle flatfish and rapalas. Boat docks are in place and the lake is almost full. Only primitive restrooms are currently open for public use. Flaming Gorge Reservoir-Rainbo- w trout fishing continues to be good from shore and in shallow water from boats. Use small spoons, spinners and jigs; or try suspending a nightcrawler 4 - 6 ft below a bobber. Good areas include Mustang, Visitors Center, Sheep Creek, Antelope, Linwood Bay, Hollow and South Squaw Buckboard. Boat anglers are using lures or a popgearworm combination. Some kokanee salmon are being taken by these same techniques, and there have bean recent reports of kokanee caught as deep as 40 feet using dodgerneedle-fis- h combination. Lake trout fishing is picking up, but pressure is still light. For deep fish, jig just off the bottom in 60 - 110 feet of water, or troll a flatfish or rapala 100 feet behind a downrigger, or right on the bottom using steel line. g Try for shallow lakers by a rapala or flatfish on monofilament line. Good areas include Antelope, Stateline, Anvil Draw, Jarvies, and Mustang Ridge. release fishing. Remember that but they are sparse. Trollers are released fish survive very well in cold temperatures. Dont feel compelled to harvest fish on every trip. Limit is four fish - only one trout may be over 18 Inches. Do not fillet fish at the reservoir. Utah Lake - Walleye spawn has ended. Fair to good success for catfish, bluegill and white bass. One angler reports success for white-bas- s using a Winger lure made by Manns lures. Try casting a nightcrawler or stink bait next to a clump of vegetation in the lake.. . catfish and carp are holding close to these. Location is very important ... move around until you find the fish. Willard Bay - Both marinas are open from 6 am. to 10 p.m. for boat launching. The automatic gates at the marinas have suffered considerable damage recently from anglers accessing the park before open hours. The gates will be fixed but if it happens again the park will go to the old, manually operated iron fairing about the same. Bass fishing has been slow to fair. The water still needs a few degrees before the bass turn on. Please remember limit regulation of only 4 trout Pineview Reservoir - Fishing is slow. Crappies are biting sporadically in traditional areas around the reservoir. The variable weather has been affecting fishing success but with the warmer temps., fishing should start to pick up. The daily tiger musky limit is one fish that must be at least 40 inches long. Provo River (above Olmstead Diversion Dam) Artificial flies and lures only! Good fishing. Fishing pressure is moderate and heavier on the weekends. Good patterns ipclude 12 or larger sowbugs, or size 18 and smaller flashback nymphs, scuds, pheasant tails, hares ear, etc. Only 2 gold-ribbe- d brown trout under 15 inches may be kept. All rainbows and cutthroats must be immediately released. Provo River (below Olmstead) - Fly fishing from the city to the mouth of Provo Canyon has been fair. Some decent success in the canyon below Olmstead Diversion. Strawberry Reservoir gates, which will reduce open -- are having mixed results. Rainbows are biting well in the open areas of Strawberry proper. Most baits and dark colored jigs or flies will do the trick. You can feet of find the rainbows in water in most of the inlets. The rainbows are averaging 12 inches so please consider releasing them as they will be approaching 18 inches by the end of summer. Fishermen 2-- Pretty tough finding the cutts. Some larger cutthroat are being caught near the inlets early in the morning. Fish dark colored lures or flies; shallow in the morning then deep in the afternoon, A warming trend should help put these fish on the take. Soldier Creek area is fair. Dont stay in one area too long. If you arent finding fish in one spot, move to another. Anglers are encouraged to practice catch and ' hours considerably. Water temperature is 53 degrees. Moderate fishing pressure. Fishing is slow. Some crappie and wipers are being caught at the marina boat docks. Some walleye action along the south and west shores. Wipers are concentrating on the South Marina and the inlet channel. Remember that the wiper limit is 2 and that its illegal to possess gizzard shad. Yuba Reservoir - Water temp, has warmed again to about 55 degrees. 55-6- 0 degrees is ideal for walleye activity. Walleyes are starting to be caught with the best depth about 20 feet. One angler reports using a 6 blade yellow harness at 46 feet to catch his first walleye. feet. But most are around 20-3- 0 Try bottom bouncers with spinner blade and night crawler fish very slowly. Other lures' have produced a few walley such as a chartreuse power grub, jigs, deep diving rapalas, etc. A few trout and perch are being caught on these lures as well. long-linin- Jordanelle Reservoir - One brown report of a 28 inch, trout recently caught. Fishing is holding steady for trout. Shore fishing should try around rocky areas and near the boat ramps. Trout are taking a variety of baits and lures. The extra calories needed for one hour of intense thought can be completely met by eating them peanuts or one bread and jam. Book of Hag The other day I took a piece of homemade bread - smothered with butter and raspberry jam - out on the patio and ate it all. While doing so, I mused on the following; If Larry Miller was fined ten thousand for screaming at Greg Anthony, what percentage of his income is that? Why cant Larry holler? Hes a fan - isnt he? Didnt he build that arena? Didnt he pay it? Doesnt he meet the pay roll other week? If Karl Malone went into a closet and flexed, would all the shelves fall down? If it were a water closet would there be a flood? If Karl was an English professor, how long would it take to decipher his code words? Like, Ill never play in Utah again. Id like to go where it rains. Why would Jeff Judkins leave Utah? He doesnt love B.Y.U. Hes a Utah man Sir. Always has been; for twenty five years. People just dont jump ship like that; change from red to blue like that Why? People dont leave home unless they are unhappy there. Coaches l. Do dont jump to their he For would go? they? Why spite? Do you know Juddy? Hes not spiteful. Must be trouble in river city. What did B.Y.U. promise Jeff? Will he get to coach there? Who arch-riva- Orders taken jV OQfcftfti fkzs? IJfflS d&Ki&TQ will recruit the L.D.S. kid to Utah? Shall I stay in die Crimson Club, or shall I bail out too? I been thinkin, thinkin hard, I been thinkin about other things. Like whats wrong with the Jazz. When are they going to start the playoffs? How did Cyprus beat Spanish Fork in baseball? Wasnt Spanish Fork ranked number one; the tour-fney favorite? I was just wonder-ever- y ing. Can the pirates win it all? I was wondering if Chris Burgess and his dad will come to Utah to play basketball. The kids okay, but the dad needs a keeper. He wants Chris to be guaranteed 30 to 35 minutes a game. Since when do dads dictate the amount of playing time? We only have 2 years left," says big daddy Burgess. We need die or time. N.B.A. Were going to the I would love it if some- - one (anyone) could tell Mr. Majerus who to play and how long, I thought about these things as I was eating my bread and jam. SIMON SAYS! I know some coaches who dont have an enemy in the world, but none of their friends like them. SIMON SAYS; Will Coach Majerus promise Chris Burgess thirty five minutes, when he wouldnt give Judkins another year? 1 - 800 - 435 - 2668 7 days a week! w" ,yTi y til fPOOR |
