In addition, there by and brood but instead they tried to ; play better. - When The i Big Dawg Antoine Carr was hurt it gave Morris a chance to become a ' major contributor to the Jazz game plan and now Morris might come in at any time in a game to add his brand of athleticism to the KIM FOLSOM STAFF WRITER . When the season began and the team looked at facing much of the early schedule without the talents of John Stockton because of an injury, the task looked monumental.' , But this gave backup guards Howard ; Eisley and Jacque Vaughn a chance to play in essential roles for the Jazz; The result was when Stockton came back the team was stronger and when John Stockton went out for a rest the subs could keep up the pressure on all of the other teams. When big contract players Greg Ostertag and Byron Russell did not perform as starters well, coach Slone put them on the bench and started with Adam Keefe and Greg Foster. Foster and Keefes game improved and so did Russells. . When a trade fell through involving Foster and. Chris Morris, it would have been easy for these two players to sit back , v'' ; game. With ; Stockton and Carr healthy and back making major plays for the Jazz, the team is much stronger and deeper because of this years adversity. No matter who is on the court for the Jazz, the team plays strong and if the starters are not up to snuff the reserve can often come " in and pick up the pace. The only weakness the Jazz have is in the play of Greg Ostertag, who has been very inconsistent this season. If Ostertag can get back on track at least to be able to play as well as he did in the playoffs last year against Chicago, the Jazz, for sure, will be hard to stop in their goal for an NBA Championship i , : Ring. YOUR JOB WAS I knew this guy who was dating this classy girl. She was good in every way and nice to look upon. He thought things were going well, and was about to fall in love, when she; confided to him that she was a High ' Maintenance Woman. TOUGH. i 0 Not being a college graduate, he asked me to explain high maintenance. Hard on the checkbook. Tough to take care of, I said. Expensive. Great Expectations.. and so on, and so on. I used a few other choice terms like never satisfied and wanting it all today. He caught on and dropped down to a lower classification; down into the eighty thousand a year bracket. He couldnt date the babe anymore anyway cause his dating car was a pick-u- p truck. , I dont know how his courtships are going now, or if he has fallen again or not. I do know that" local University of Utah fans have fallen for Rick Majerus and that he is a high maintenance coach. If you have Coach Majerus, you will have also his invoices. t He is probably as good a coach as there is. He knows the Xs and the Os like you cant believe, He can teach defense. His game plans are marvelous. He can take other team out of their game. Hes a coach and a real v one. You only have to watch the Utes play Arizona and North Carolina, to know that Majerus can coach. All us Utes know he coulda had Kentucky. One more race horse and the Derby was ours. Except for his wardrobe, Majerus costs a lot of money. He costs some- where around a million a year, plus car, plus a hotel room and a maid, plus a shoe contract, plus meal money and a recruiting budget. He also needs pizza on demand, gas for his Blazer, occasional pasta and a sweater or two. The man costs money. Is he worth it? Of course. The big time Utah boosters, those with real resources think so. They ante up some of the cash flow. They help on payday. Have you noticed that Coach Majerus loves the limelight. He liked being in the Final Four. I liked us there too, didnt you? Is it worth the cabbage? Of cough, of cough. My friend dropped his high maintenance girl friend, but I think we should keep the coach. Whats a few spaghetti dinners? We can get donated. My sister Lenna can knit them. If Majerus stays, he will win every year. No one in the WAC will catch him. Lets keep feeding the kitty and keep winning. Lets go to the tournament every year and maybe well win it. Lets maintain what we have. Simons Says: We dont have to buy Coach Majerus a new sport coat. He only goes on the Jay Leno show once or twice in a lifetime. . Simons Says: If Doleac would have stood on Majeruss wallet, he ' would have gotten more rebounds. v Simons Says: I would sooner pay a basketball coach than an official. ; Officials dont even care who wins. I Simons Says: know a lot of coaches who dont think about money. It takes their mind off of themselves. ; t Utah Power, we've been i supplying and delivering safe, reliable electricity for more than 85 years. We know the job. We know' the area. And' tycvknow there are some things you'd ratherinot have to think s about. The reliability of yourrtlic., trie service is one of them. That'sno matter where we come in how big or small the task. - - . ; O Utah ponmm : . : |
