Show 8 The Magna TimesWest Valley News, Thursday, March 26, 1998 SLC to host 1 998 MS Walk for Multiple Sclerosis April 18 The ninth annual MS WALK, by Dan's Foods and the ;"Jtah Chapter National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will he Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. The MS WALK will be held at six different loca-- ! tions statewide, including Gardner Village (1100 West 7800 South, the Salt Lake City ; Wst Jordan) Mo WALK site. 'Nearly 2,000 Utahns in Salt Lake, Cedar City, Ogden, Provo, St. George, and Vernal are expected to walk this year to help the fight Against multiple sclerosis (MS). Proceeds raised by the MS WALK help support free services provided by the Utah Chapter to CUtahns affected by MS, as well as belp fund local and national research into the cause and cure of ,MS. The Utah Chapter hopes to raise at least $85,000 in pledges more receive an MS WALK and qualify for other prizes according to amount raised. Walkers must turn in all pledge money the day of the MS Walk to participate and to qualify for prizes. A minimum of $10 must be turned in by each walker to participate. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a devastating and unpredictable chronic disease of the central nervous system. MS randomly attacks the central nervous system, wearing away control over the body. Generally affecting people between 20 and 40 years of age, MS symptoms range from imbalance and numbness to paralysis and blindness. People with MS never know when attacks will occur, how long they will last, or how much of their abilities will be left when the attack is over. There is currently no known cause or cure for multiple sclerosis.
