Show o ine Magna nmeswest vaney News, Tnursaay, August 1, isao Entertainment 8attle of the Bands slated for Aug. 3 Hale Centre Theatre to present Forever Plaid The West Valley City Arts Council, in cooperation with the West Valley City Parks and Recreation Department, invites you and your entire family to come to Granger Park on Saturday, August 3, from 2 to 10 p.m. for a free concert. Granger Park is located on the southwest comer of 3500 South and 3600 West, adjacent to Granger High School. This concert is the last in the summer series and promises to provide everyone in attendance with loads of fun. On the program will be three of the finest bands in the valley, and several local entertainers who are willing to share their time Hale Centre Theatre presents Forever Plaid, opening August 1 and running through Sept. 30. On a theatre trip to New York four years ago, Mark and Sally Dietlein and Bob and Sally Swenson, coowners of HCT, found a flyer in their hotel room touting one of the longest running off Broadway shows. The premise looked delightful, so they went. The theatre was a very small dinner house which only accommodated an audience of about 100, and that night was a performance they will never forget. Smashed n elbow to elbow in tiny, building was an evening of sheer and talents. The Keith Golden Band Each band member comes from a diversified background in music, from Rocky Mountain Splendor, run-dow- joy, breathtaking musical excellence, and perfectly executed humor and choreography. They left wanting more, and were the lucky ones to snag the Salt Lake premiere by a local company. Hear Moments to Remember, 16 Tons, Love is Shangri-La Many Splendored Thing, and more. See choreography designed Oakridge Boys, Chris LeDoux, Vince Gill, Santana, and more. This is a band with a promising future and one you wont want to miss! Lake City This band will rock the park with their renditions of famous and favorite top 40s and oldies such as Love Potion, "Wooly Booly, and Unchained Melody. The band originated in 1985 and, even after several changes through the years, is still going strong. Escapade. The night will end with a third hot local band, comprised of four seasoned musicians whose expertise vocally and instrumentally create an exciting new sound. Their concerts are filled with a variety' of music, ranging from. classic, rock., and roll, oldies, top 40, country, and slow melodic ballads. a, to wrap the audience up in a world of memories. Envelope it all in a marvelously funny story line ... In 1964, four crooners are on their way to their first live concert when they meet their untimely demise they are broadsided by a busload of eager Catholic school girls on their way to the Ed Sullivan Show to see the Beatles. The boys have one chance to come back to earth to give the performance they never got to do. Roles are double cast. Forever Plaid will play Aug. 30 every Mon.-Sat.- y evening except Sept. 2 (Labor Day) when HCT will have a special evening of Broadway music by a former member of the Canadian National Touring Cast of Phantom of the Opera, Diana Walker, and renown local pianist David Glen Hatch. The concert will be held in our new Alder Amphitheater on the Redwood Campus at 8 p.m. This will be the first event scheduled in the new amphitheater which was donated to the school by John Alder. The concert, An Evening with Paul Cardall will be open to the general public. There will be no admission charge and no ticket will he required to get in. Paul Cardall is a young local performer who has composed a variety of solos over the past five years, each of which has a story behind it. Cardall has a unique way of incorporating his audiences into his performances by helping them to feel as he did when composing each piece. He invites those in attendance to put their emotions into remembering their loved ones, especially those who have passed on. Cardall is currently recording an instrumental album for The g author Richard Paul Christmas Box from the number one Evans. In December, Cardall and Evans will take their musical presentation on tour beginning in Utah. Also, Cardall is currently writing film scores for several Childrens Television Workshop documentaries.
