Show 6 The Magna TlmeaWest Valley News, Thursday, July 11, 1996 Schools Local high school students participate in Girls State The American Legion Auxiliary recently completed their 49th year of Girls State sessions. The girls of Girls State establish a mythical 51st state, and this is done in every state in the nation. Those attending participate in a hands-o- n program, learning the electoral process on city, county, state, and national levels. We are proud to present such a worthwhile experience to carefully chosen high school juniors from our community. Utah participants from this area include students from Cyprus, Hunter, Kearns, Taylorsville, and Granger High Schools: HUNTER HIGH: Jehnifer Buchanan, Mindee Bass, Becky Virgin, Amy Robinson. GRANGER HIGH: Jennifer Pattee, Alyson Beebe, Diana Van Orden, Sparkle Marie Buechert. TAYLORSVILLE HIGH: Maren Brenda Loveland, Lundberg, Jessica Carl, and Vicky Campbell. KEARNS HIGH: Abigail Dizon, Laura Cannon, Heather White, Monika Sherlund. CYPRUS HIGH: Becklyn Thee, Hayley Fenwick, Candise Schmidt, Lorelyn Jacobsen, Brittnay McIntyre (alternate). Jennifer Buchanan from Hunter High School was elected as a Girl State National Senator. She will be flying to Washington, D.C., July 13-2- 0. Jennifer is one of two girls chosen in Utah to have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the operation of our federal government. The American Legion Auxiliary takes care of all expenses for this great experience. This emotionally charged, soulful, melodic rock band is not always acoustic. Acoustic Junction shows are high energy performances that span all categories of music and transcend any stereotypes that could be placed on them. In the past four years, this band has ebbed and flowed its way to the prominent position of one of the bands in the most sought-afte- r western region. They have opened for acts such as Dave Matthews, t t Blues Traveler, and Widespread Panic. This years looking great with a showcase in the prominent South by Southwest Music Conference and a slew of major record labels knocking.
