Support our localathletes They say professional sports are entertainment. I say they are sports. They say anything that puts gizzys in the seats is okay; things like green hair and tattoos, and any other kind of bizarre behavior. Just win, baby, as A1 Davis says down in Oakland. Doesnt matter what you look like. You can wear a ring in your nose and resemble your Darwinese cousins at the zoo. Just pique the interest of the paying patrons and anything will be allowed. Get the media involved if you can. Theyll write about anything good, bad, or sensational. Newspaper men look up to anyone who seems eccentric, just as they look down on politicians. Show me a gooney player and Ill show you some newspaper articles. There are a few role models out there like Cal Ripken or David Robinson. The press doesnt like them. Too vanilla. Why cant basketball players just play basketball? Why do they have to do it with orange hair and earrings? Personally I like the game played no side shows. Give me Jordan without the straight up by the rules boxer commercials or Karl Malone when hes hittin the jumper. I like peanuts with no salt and basketball without players from the circus. Why dont all those weirdos go back into the closet? How can a guy like Rodman be allowed on the floor? How does an exhibitionist with a D average and a motorcycle draw the big crowds? I guess in the NBA hell is a half full gymnasium. Ive often wondered why the coaches wear suits and the players wear earrings; the coaches wear ties and the players tie up their ponytails; the coaches get a haircut and the players get a dye job. They call it entertainment. I call it sport. 1 am entertained by defense and rebounding. Not by hair color. I like a winner, not a marketing major who shot without the threewill sell his soul for a buck. I love the three-point pronged personality. It would really entertain me if guys like Rodman and Kemp and their teams could be eliminated. Is it basketball or a side show? It is my contention that most of the officials are flawed and should be examined under a microscope to see what form of are eating at their senses. Officials should stop entertaining me and start calling the games a purist. .Entertain iqe with competition. accor$$ jp micro-organis- SIMONS SAYS: I have been trying to entertain you with the picture at the top of this column.
