Living from the Land - Legacy of a Past Era opens at Wheeler Historic Farm The Wheeler Historic Farm Museum announces the opening of a special exhibition, Living from the Land - Legacy of a Past Era. This is the first of a series of new exhibits planned by the farms museum committee. The exhibition, open to the public through December 31, focuses on Utah family farming at the turn of the century, a time period of great changes in local and national farming techniques. Underlying the great changes in farming during this period was the basic reality of the market. At this time, pioneer subsistence farming was giving way to larger farms and cash producing crops. It was also a period of scientific experimentation and great mechanical inventions. The exhibition highlights how Utah families on farms produced much of what they needed to pro vide for themselves throughout the year. Items not produced on the family farm were often purchased or traded for from other neighboring farms. The age of convenient grocery stores and such had not yet arrived. It took long days of work throughout the year to place food oh the dinner table. Living on the land took total and coordinated family efforts. The divisions of labor were fairly set and every member of the family was expected to work. The exhibition is located in the gallery of the Activity Bam at Wheeler Historic Farm, 6351 South 9th East, Salt Lake City. On display are many of the museums finest collection pieces. A restored horse carriage and a beautiful cutter sleigh are the main attractions, other items include farm machinery. one-hor- dairy industry items, and blacksmith shop tools. Items of a finer nature such as bobbin lace, quilting, rugs, and household goods are also displayed. Live crafts will be demonstrated as part of the exhibition throughout the year. Some of the demonstrations include quilting, weaving, bobbin lacing, butter churning, and rug braiding. The cost of attending the exhibition is included in the farms admissions fee. Let him be himself. Sports are not a sin. Does he have to give up him to be loved by you? What is the feminine craze to organize everything? Whats wrong with the way things are? Is the status quo so bad? I look in the mirror and like what I see. Dont change me. You may lose a good thing. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but Im steady. Ill be there every time. Just a little structuring and they could really be their great selves. Wives can see room for improvement. Wives can project big things for their mates, if only their man would cooperate; a little change here and a little help there. Who knows what a great and useful person might emerge from that untrained persona. Do all us fellas really need to change? Are we that bad? Why not leave us alone?
