Show The Magna Times Local playor PSil by Dale Simons "77mm are not fast man. 77mm ara not quick man, but their brains and hands move vary rapidly." Book of Hag Larry Bird and Josh Grant are a lot alike. Larry cant run and neither can Josh. Josh cant Jump and neither can Larry. They are both very good basketball players. Bird has that ridiculous moustache. Josh has his simple grin that looks like a little kid. Its like he has too many teeth for his mouth. If you tested these two guys for athletic ability, they would come in last. They dont do things well that good athletes do. They cant run fast. They do not jump high. Both have poor legs and long arms. Both know how to play basketball. Both have a feel for the game. Both lead their teams. Bird calls himself the hick from French Lick.'He is that, until he steps on the basketball court. All of a sudden, he is transformed. He becomes wonderful, marvelous, and all the other adjectives you can think of. Both Josh and Larry are blessed with great hands. Both of them can catch the ball, in traffic. As it is written, You must catch it before you can shoot it Hands are an important prerequisite to being a good basketball player. Larry Bird is one of the smartest basketball players I have ever seen. When the Celtics used to play the Jazz, he would figure out Utahs plays early in the game and intercept many of their passes. Josh Grant really understands the game of basketball. He knows where people are on the court and what they are doing. Larry Bird was the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics for many years. As he went, so went the green and white. He led them to many championships. Josh has done the same for his teams. When he plays well, the Utes are practically unbeatable. shooters. Tbey can Grant and Bird are both great three-poin- t fill it up from long range. Shooting is only part of their game. They both pass well, play decent defense, and work the backboards. In a word, they are complete players. Larry Bird led the league in lower back pain, while Josh sat out a year with a bad knee. Both know what pain is. Both have overcome. Is Josh as good as Larry? Can he really play pro? Probably with the right team. ranks 24th in fantasy competition - . person. IJave you ever seen them together? SIMONS SAYS: Basketball players with beautiful bodies are not always good, but good players with many a body defect are always beautiful. Kent Goble Sports Editor Art Anderson, a member of Kennecotts financial planning team, is a bit of a celebrity these days. The former McGill, Nevada resident has climbed to 24th in the annual Basketball Fantasy competition. Anderson, who ranked about number 32,000 last season, credits his spectacular rise from obscurity to the limelight of notoriety to some hard work, a little luck, and his ability to pick the right players ... except for Jeff Malone, that is. I could have traded him, Anderson explained, but Im loyal to our local Jazz players. Im less than 450 points out of first place and Jeff accounts for 359 of them. I know Jeff can come back, Anderson stated hopefully, adding, but if he doesnt, I may have peaked. Up from 64th last week, Anderson suggested a few well-plac- ed prayers in 8th grade Brockbank Braves finish season with 6-- 1 record i by Mark Mageras Assistant Basketball Coach Brockbank Jr. High Our 1993 8th grade Brockbank Braves had high hopes for the season, and fortunately most of our goals were accomplished.
