They represented Utah in the 1990 Great American Liberty Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they were featured in a special guest spot on WPVI-TV. Romney, Opening ceremonies at 1990 Festival of American West to be held The 1990 Festival of the American West at Utah State University officially opens Friday, July 27. All demonstrations, crafts displays, exhibits, food areas, and entertainment begin at 2 p.m. when the fair gates open. The state spectacular 7he West: America s Odyssey opens that night as well. Doors to the Spectrum open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Seating is general admission but tickets must be purchased for specific dates. Formal opening ceremonies at the festival are held the following day, Saturday, July 28. The fair opens at 2 p.m. and official opening ceremonies begin at 3 p.m. at the nag area near Frontier Street, according to festival coordinator Ron Jones. A reception for quilt contest participants is held at 12:30 in the HPER building. Awards will be presented at that time. At 3 p.m. a variety of community, university, and festival officials will arrive on the fairgrounds by stagecoach, accompanied by a military escort. The festivals newly created military brass band, the 7th U.S. Infantry Band, will be on hand to provide the music. The authentic stagecoach used in the Dpening ceremonies is from the Iron Mission State Park in Cedar City. The opening includes a formal flag ceremony and members ui the Cache Valley area Mormon Battalion will raise the flag. Soldiers from the festivals Military Camp area serve as the color guard and provide the gun salute.
