Show THE MAGNA TIMES, THURSDAY, APRIL 13, 1989 PAGE 3 Community Magna East Stake conference on coping with grief to be held MAC holds monthly meeting, special meeting to be held by W. Kent Goble The Magna branch library was a busy place Thursday evening, April 6. The Magna Area Council met at 7 p.m. for their monthly meeting. 25 persons were present along with ten council members. Among the visitors were eight scouts from Troop 128. The evenings business was primarily involved with review of conditional use permits being requested through County Planning and Zoning. Acreage south of the Magna Central Stakehouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints has been proposed as a site for uses. The church plans to develop volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and a childrens area on the property. David Tanner of the council stated that the property is zoned R26-The proposal fits the master plan and is the type of development we want in our community. After considerable discussion, the council voted to recommend approval of the proposal. Dallas John gave input regarding his discussion with owners of First Automotive Sales and Service, 9152 multi-recreation- al 5. West 2700 South. The business has not conformed to two stipulations in the original conditional use permit issued by the county: planter boxes and slats in the fence. Mr. J6Hn recommended the council support the provisions of the original conditional use permit. The council sustained his motion. Lyle Erickson, property owner at 8400 West and 3750 South presented his plans to build an RV storage unit facility on property at' that location. The facility would be built to conform to structural requirements in the overpressure zone. As there is no sewer connection, Mr. Ericksons facility will use a septic tank. Marlene Norcross of the council acknowledged that this would be good business for Magna and is just right for the M-- l zoning. 'The council endorsed Mr. Ericksons proposal but stressed that handling of waste water and sewage disposal be strictly enforced, and also that the construction be in conformity with requirements of the overpressure zone. The council recommended denial of an application to establish an auto junkyard near 8000 West and 2400 South. They made a distinction between auto dismantling businesses and junk yards. It was then pointed out that International Waste Transportation Services is leasing property at 7916 West 2400 South. Four trucks and six trailers are on the property from time to time. Its a maintenance and repair facility for a business that hauls hazardous wastes, including PCBs. Marlene Norcross, on behalf of the nearby residents, opposed approving the business at that location because hazardous waste may eventually end up in the soil and ground water. She also expressed concern about propane tanks on the property. Steve Harris spoke in favor of the business having personally toured the business site. He stated that he was impressed with the operation and Singer, author, and composer Deanna Edwards will speak and sing about creative grief, the combining of the power of loneliness with the power of love. His efforts to help beautify the Pleasant Green Cemetery have had a tremendous impact. This year, the cemetery will look its best in years. Keith Pard Burrell ... my hero by W. Kent Goble Magna Times Feature Writer He has the good looks and wry humor of a Gary Cooper, the pleasant, open disposition of a Henry Hank Fonda, the tough hard driving determination of a General George S. Patton, and the forthright integrity of John The Duke Wayne. Hes my hero and his name is Keith Pard Burrell. For the past three years, Pard has made improvements at the Pleasant Green Cemetery one of his highest priorities. You pick the day or time and, chances are, youll find Pard up on the hill mowing, tilling with a tractor, or watering the dozen or so pine trees that we have planted amongst the graves. If ever someone deserved recognition, its Keith Pard Burrell. But, whenever you compliment his efforts, he just smiles that special smile and says, Heck ... I love doing this. This motion isnt work to me! Charles Ford of the Church of God Ill never forget the day Pard stopof Prophecy next spoke to the counped by as I was doing some mowing cil. He intends to build a church at in preparation for Memorial Day. Ten 9200 West and 3 100 South. The counacres can seem like a huge piece of teradvised David Tanner, cil, through ritory when youre the only mower in Pastor Ford that he will need apsight. Say, he asked me cheerfulpropriate paperwork from Planning would you mind if I gave you a and Zoning before the council can ly, with the mowing? And now, several summers down Ross Whitaker indicated that three the road, Keith Pard Burrell is a new lights from CD Funding are now familiar sight at the old pioneer operable on 8400 West adjacent to the ' trailer court. This was a result of a in 1986 and subsequent action t fatality by the community to see that the area . is properly illuminated. A special council meeting was scheduled for Monday, April 17, to complete council business. Present at the April 6 meeting were Ross Whitaker, Steve Harris, Marlene Norcross, Russ Hansen, Dallas John, Larry Argyle, Connie Kendall, and David Tanner. 6-- 7-- 3. . Sponsored by the stake Relief Society, the conference theme will be Sharing Your Gift of Love: Every Rose Has Thorns. It will be held at the stake center, 2852 South 8000 She has recorded six albums and is writing several books. She served three years on the board of directors of the American College of Health Care Administrators and was recognized as one of fifty American heroines in the Ladies Home Journal in 1984. West. suggested the council tour the business before making a decision. Russ Hansen of the council countered. He asked, Are we going to be completely surrounded by hazardous industry? Ms. Silver of Community Action stated that it was her organizations recommendation that all hazardous waste be kept at least five miles away from residences and schools. She added, There is no way, with chemicals, to completely clean a trailer. Geraldine Huber stated that her husband had hauled hazardous waste in his business and that activities are carefully checked by appropriate governmental agencies. Connie Kendall also stated that she was personally aware that handling of hazardous waste was a very safe and carefully controlled situation. Marlene Norcross reinstated her motion to recommend disapproval of the business operating at that location. The council voted 4 against her motion. Larry Argyle then recommended continuance and research for a 30 day period. The council endorsed his Deanna Edwards travels to workshops throughout the United States and Canada, singing about lifes experiences, both pleasant and painful. She uses music therapy to bring comfort to the sick, elderly, and dying. How to deal with grief will be the topic for the Womens Conference of the Magna East Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints on April 15 at 2 p.m. cemetery up on the hill that overlooks Magna. Speaking of graveyards, The Orem Chapter of Sertoma International gave her the distinguished Service to Mankind Award in 1985 and she was chosen as one of Utahs Outstanding Young Women in 1978. The conference is open to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation, and a nursery will be provided for women with small children. his workshop sometimes resembles one. Mowers, tillers, or other equipment that he regularly uses to work at the cemetery may be found, temporarily disabled, awaiting repair. The pounding taken in turning rock and stone to improve the landscape occasionally shuts down his equipment. But Pard never complains. Heck, hell say with a grin, I just went over and picked up a used mower and used the parts to get back to mowing. How much is a guy like Pard Burrell worth? I wouldnt want to put a number on it because Pard never thinks in those kinds of terms. Pard Burrell is just the most genuine human being that Ive ever met. And, the good Lords purpose in placing him in our midst must be to remind us that the human spirit, with its attributes of love, compassion, kindness, generosity, selflessness, and sincerity, is capable of truly wonderful things. If I had the money to compensate Pard Burrell for all hes done to help beautify the Pleasant Green Cemetery, hed just refuse to accept it. Instead, hed say, Gee ... I havent done much. I just wish I could do more, then hed try to pay me for letting him help out instead. Yep, Keith Pard Burrells ... my hero! Obituaries Ivan R. Memmott Magna. Active in church auxiliaries.
