The regulation, published in the June 1 Federal Register, applies to all operators of large trucks weighing more than 26,000 pounds, to drivers of vehicles designed to carry at least 15 passengers, and to drivers of vehicles that transport placarded hazardous materials. It is unconscionable that a truck or bus driver today can obtain several drivers licenses from different states, then hide bad driving records by distributing traffic violations among them, Secretary Dole said. The ban on possessing more than one commercial drivers license will apply not only to those drivers who operate in interstate commerce, but also to those who operate wholly within a states borders. e The new requirement in the Commercial contained was Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 and will be administered by the Federal Highway Administration.
