Daytime temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s have brought spring like conditions to the Fish Lake basin. All remaining snow at Fish Lake has melted. Open water fishing near Fish Lake Lodge has yielded excellent fishing for Rainbow trout. Fishermen have also reported catching Splake as large as two pounds. (Splake arc a cross between Brook trout and Mackinaw trout that were introduced to Fish Lake over the past 3 years.) Marina facilities will be open and available to fishermen beginning the first week in May. Right after the ice clears from Fish Lake is traditionally one of the best fishing times of the year. Many large Mackinaw trout are generally taken during this time. New lodging facilities are presendy open at Fish Lake with cabin sizes ranging from 6 bedrooms. All new cabins feature queen beds, full kitchens, fireplaces, color TVs and no telephones. The new cabins are all close to the lake and have beautiful views. In short, spacemen are where its at. I know some spacemen in sports whose antics are worthy of comment. They seem to be crazy times ten when games of competition provide the back drop. Let us consider Bill Lee whos nickname is space man, and who is Americas newest candidate for president Lee will run on the stilted platform of the Rhinoceros Part)'. This somewhat spacey group originated in Canada, while Lee himself started on Mars. Bill the Schill promises a thrill for every voter who casts him electorically into the number one spot. He advocates abolishing the law of gravity (to improve space travel) and eliminating unemployment by doing away with the agency that records it. Other planks in Wild Bills platform include compulsory exercise for all Americans. He will do away with both guns and red meat since both can be fatal. The spaceman wants to outlaw the designated hitter, make yearly raises automatic for everyone, and require umpires to register as known communists. Another spaceman with few eardy ties, thinking and cloudy vision is Jay Johnstone, late of Los Angeles Dodgers. Although good with a bat, he often flew like a bat, and left a trail of space eggs in his wake. He did it all, if it was crazy or unexpected. They called his book Temporary Insanity, but it wasnt temporary. It was permanent. When it was reported that he wrote a book, someone asked if he wrote it with a fire extinguisher or shaving cream. Some say there are people in asylums who are saner than Jay Johnstone. Although the statement seems strong, there is little doubt that Johnstone is a spaceman of the first water. There is a saying that some people march to the tune of a different drummer, but Johnstone must hear a symphony out there. Jay is the only ball player in baseball history to drag the infield one inning and hit a home run the next. That makes him the grand champion spaceman. SIMONS SAYS: Beer makes some people happy. Winning ball games makes some people happy. Cashing checks makes most people happy. SIMON SAYS: I knew an intelligent ball player who invented a revolving bowl for tired gold fish. SIMON SAYS: If you are not sure you can eat six pieces of pizza, have yours cut in fourths.
