The two of them have a distinguished record of two light shades in one month. (One right after his mother had replaced it) Chris is very close to his grandparents and enjoys fishing with his grandpa. Chris likes most of the rock and rill with some country and likes playing Trivial Pursuit and Risk. He hates cleaning his bedroom and eating Chris Yeates spaghetti. During the Jr. Olympics he swam freestyle on a relay team. Chad Blanchard is the swimmer of the month for the gold and silver group. He is the son of Dave and Dorothy Blanchard of Magna. Chad has been swimming for seven vears, he also loves playing basket ball and has played volleyball on the school team. Although he is in the ninth grade at Brockbank Junior High, Chad plays J.V. water polo with the Cyprus team. He is a member of the high honor roll at school where his favorite class is Spanish. Along with his other interests, Chad plays the piano and guitar and is a service project away from becoming an Eagle Scout. Chad swam nine races for the Pirate team at the Junior Olympics and last week he took first place in his age group at the Tsumani Pentathlon. Employees disciplined for killing bear Jerry A. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Weaver appealed Director Millers action to Dee C. Hansen, Department of Natural Resources executive director. A protest can only be allowed when an umpire has made a mistake or an ineligible player has been used. There must be a misinterpretation of the rules. Here is a hypothetical situation in which an umpire might get in trouble. The home team is behind three to one in the last of the seventh. There is one out with runners at first and second. The batter hits a hopper to short stop but the runner from first beats the throw to second base and is called' safe. In an effort to get the runner going to first base, the second baseman throws the ball over the first base mans head and into the visiting team dugout. How far do you let the runner advance? A cheap shot is usually untrue, unfair and often malicious. People who pull and are thought to be lacking in character. these tricks are In athletics, the cheap shot artist jumps out at you where ever you go. He may show up in the locker room by using your clean sweat sox, or stealing your towel while your in the shower. He may take your only jock or manifest himself in other ways. Cheap shots are often delivered by those who ought to be on your side like a self-servi- teacher, a coach or a team mate; by a friend and even a soul mate. Cheap shots come from all directions. There are places in sports where you have to watch out for the cheap shot. Do not stand around a pile up on the football field cause some late arrival will blast you after the whistle blows. Dont linger to long around second base while making the double play cause some eager sophomore will slide in with his spikes high, and carve his initials on your tibilias anterior. Dont jump too high and wide to make a layup at basketball practice. There is always some one who will take out your legs, and you will land on your external occipital protuberance, and that hurts. Some of the cheapest of cheap shots can be administered verbally; caustic and cutting, they can be just as debilitating as an unsuspected helmet to the kidney or a bite on the earlobe While wrestling. Defeat on the field or the floor is often followed by rationalization at the post game press conference. As one player said, We have no one to blame each other. And so we take cheap shots can be adminstered And so we take cheap shots at almost every one in sight. Too bad, but true. The worst media cheap shot against our baseball team, was when a reporter said There was nothing wrong with the team that more fielding, pitching, and hitting wouldnt cure. Some of the cheapest of all cheap shots come from the parents who seem to really know how to lay coaches and officals low. Did you hear the story of the elderely matron who had to be forcibly removed from a sophomore basketball game, because she practically dismembered the officals with her verbal On irate mom came out of he stand and told a coach he was the worst ever." This happened 30 seconds after he had dropped a close one. Needless to say the coach wasnt ready. That was the ultimate cheap shot. Watch out for the cheap shot artists. They are everywhere. Vaun Mikesell,DDS Ofol and Maxillofacial Sufgeor A The epidemic of a disease known as aquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) began in the spring of 1981 when unusual numbers of cases of Kaposis sarcoma and a form of cystic pneumonia were reported in New York, Los Angeles and San Fransisco. Most of the cases have been seen in male homosexuals in gay areas. Several of the lesions seen in a clinic in San Fransisco included Kaposis of the lymph .n cf carcinoma (Sq. Cell. Ca.). A new white lesion was also nodes, and a seen on the tongue of these patients that wasnt described in previous sarcoma, oral candidiasis (yeast), oral warts, malignancy f. literature. White lesions were seen in 77 male homosexuals between the ages of 0 years. Seven were known to have AIDS, and the remaining 70 claimed to be heaithiy. Of the 70 remaining healthly patients, 61 had a history of syphilis or gonorrhea; 44 had a persistant wide spread lymph node involvement ; 49 were using, or had recently used tobacco;60 had a history of hepatitus; and all reported using nitrites, marijuana, or cocaine. 22-5- The lesions consisted of areas of abnormally white and thickened tissue on the top and sides of the tongue. The lesions were often very irregular, corrugated or hairy appearing and were usually asymptomatic, but seldom completely disappeared. A virus similar to the virus causing the flat wart of the skin is found in these white tongue lesions. This virus is an infection not normally found in the mouth, but has no resistance to its growth there because of the compromised condition of these healthy patients. (Abstracted in part from Compendium of Continuing Education!: Dentistry). If a patient is known to have AIDS, a biopsy of the white lesion will not contribute much except to an academic study. If the lesion is found in a non AIDS patient, then he would probably have a history of drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, tabacco use or may be an early AIDS infected person. Any questions about white lesions of the mouth should be answered by your health professionals. Questions about Dental Health . . Ask Dr. L. CfiiS SPORTSWOMAN by The Women's If Sports Foundation and M&MMARS Gymnastics Gymnastics is challenging, exciting and a lot of fun. It is also hard work and dedication. Yet for those who can recall the smile on Mary Lou Rettons face at the Olympics, it is hard work that can pay off in golden ways. Following Mary Lous outstanding gymnastics performance at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, clubs around the United States were inundated with new members. While there are many young boys who aspire to Olympic dreams, it is clearly the young girls who yearn for it most. More than 90 of the United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF) members are females. Most girls who wish to compete competitively, begin their tracing at a young age. Many youngsters start even before they have entered school. It is the family, parents and child who together must make the commitment to this all consuming yet rewarding sport. With the numbers of aspiring stars, it has become essential to start ones training early. For those who commit themselves fully, they will have to work their way up the ladder, beginning in Class 4, heading toward Class 1 and then to the Elite category. There will be compulsory moves as well as optional ones. In due time there will be twists, rotations and backsprings in vaulting; tumbling, dancing and more twists on the floor; handstands, flips and sudden changes in direction on the bars; and a combination of tumbling and dance on the balance beam. The more competitive one gets, the more intricate the routine will be. For those gymnastic enthusiasts who desire a less competitive atmosphere, the high school team is certainly an excellent place to begin. The skill and techniques of vaulting, floor exercise, uneven bars and balance beam can be developed under proper supervision. The Womens Sports Foundation and M&MMARS, the makers of Milky Way Bar", have recognized and support the participation of women in sports. For this reason, the two have teamed up for the WSFMILKY WAY Bar High School r Awards program.
