Yet in the last two decades, the heart of this haven has been portrayed as a ghost town with rows of shattered windows, boarded buildings and broken pavements, recalled the Times in the Oct. 10 issue. The frustration of the Magna community resulting from the Salt Lake Countys unnegotiable control over considerable Magnas resources was cited as one cause of the deterioration of Magnas Main Street in an Oct. 10 editorial entitled The Plight of Magna to Achieve. In fact, the street represents only a parcel of the Magna suburb. Having reached its adolescence, the editorial continued, Magna is not only assuming responsibility for its own h but for its fate. By demonstrating its ability to accept increasing responsibility it can earn its independance or force it.
