When will 1 forget those loses? The ones that were especially bitter. When they pat me on the belly with a spade, thats when Ill forget Darrell Royal turn-of-the-centu- ry Sometimes, even in yout own chosen profession, there are those who just seem to rub you wrong. I mean their obnoxious. They just seem to have the knack of being jerks. Some of those jerkwaters even appear in the sportsmanship world of athletics. Could it be true? Yes, even among my brothers the coaches. The coach that bothers me most is the arrogant one who wins and rubs it in. He cant just win shake your hand and go. He has to lord it over you. Sometimes his team has been very lucky and maybe even won by a fluke, but he still acts like it was a well planned process. This coach will do things that put salt in the wounds of his defeated colleague. At the post game meeting he may say, thats three in a row for us old buddy. or weve won two straight on your field, or we always ruin you home coming dont we? Quick Tips For Portable Picnic How about the coach who beats you and then makes quotes to tne newspaper that disparages your team? He may say, they didnt play it very smart there at the end, or I cant understand their strategy in the second half, or why they tried to pass in those situations Ill never know. These kinds of guys certainly do not endear themselves to their fallen rivals. They need to learn to champion the exploits of their own team without berating For a portable picnic with minimal take home cleanup, equip yourself with a portable grill, the makings for GRILLED PICNIC PITAS and the following tips. Before leaving home, wrap a marinated steak, fresh summer vegetables and pita bread in heavy duty aluminum foil. At the picnic site, line the grill with heavy duty aluminum foil. Cut through the foil to open the grill vents before you start the fire. When the coals are ashy gray, start cooking with a foil package of vegetables; follow with the steak a few minutes later. Add the pita bread last. After the picnic, let the coals cool completely. Then simply use the foil lining from the grill to wrap up and toss the used charcoal. For a mess-fre- e trip home, wrap the grid or cooking rack in a separate sheet of foil. Equipped with these tips, enjoy your next picnic and keep the cleanup as carefree as the picnic itself. their opponents efforts. I do not like coaches who run the score up. There is an unwritten law that differentiates between a safe lead and rubbing it in. In football it is four touch downs. In basketball it is a twenty-poilead in the fourth quarter. In baseball it is ten runs after the fifth inning. I dislike those football coaches who pass in the fourth quarter when they are up by four t.d.s. The basketball coach who is ahead and presses in the waning moments of the game when the winner has long since been decided turns me off. The baseball coach who uses the hit and run, and the steal late in the game, when he is up by eight on nine runs, will lose friends among his compatriots, and well he aught to. Leo Durocher said, nice guys finnish last, but I believe it is possible to coach successfully, and still be a nice guy. Some of you coaches out there aught to try it, and Ill try it too.
