To earn this nomination, Kyle has proved himself to be an outstanding achiever in all areas. Kyles special interests lie in computers and video games. A few of his many achievements include a scholarship to attend a leadership conference at Valley Forge, participation in the school musicals, as well as the Prsident of the National Honor Society. Kyles future plans include attending the University of Utah where he intends to major in electrical engineering. He also hopes to gain some kind of minor in the field of computers. CHRISTINE FOERSTER Christine Foerstr has won the nomination for the Cyprus Sterling Scholar in history. She was selected for this honor because of her involvement in student in government as the reporter-historiath Executive Council, her participation in the advanced placement history program, and her volunteer work on the election committee for Mr. Ted Wilson. Chris enjoys reading and embroidering as well as music as evidenced by her participation in the school musicals and concert choir. After high school, Chris plans to attend the University of Utah to major in psychology. n CHANTELLE SIMPSON To represent Cyprus High in the division of Math for Sterling Scholar is Chantelle Simpson. Chantelle lilkes to ski, ride motorcycles, and ride snowmobiles in her spare time. She was chosen for the Sterling Scholar in math because of her involvement in the Cyprus calculus, trigonometry, and college algebra programs. She has received math awards throughout her high school term and she serves as the After secretary of the Ski Club. Chantelle graduates, she plans to attend the University of Utah to major in mathematics education. COLLETTE JENSEN Collette Jensen has been selected to represent Cyprus as the Sterling Scholar in the field of English. Some of her activities include involvement in the student body congress and Spinnakers. Collette was chosen as the outstanding junior English student, and first place awards in creative writing contests have helped to qualify her for this honor. After Collette graduates, she plans to attend the Universitgy of Utah where she hopes to major in English. She is also considering a career in teaching English in the secondary schools. LORINA TESTER To represent Cyprus in the field of speech and drama for Sterling Scholar, Lorina Tester is the worthy recipient. To name a few of her many qualifications, Lorina was named as the state impromptu speaking champion. She won the first place award in the state for her Voice of Democracy essay. Lorina earned the title of Lieutenant Governor at Girls State and in addition is the President of the debate squad and the drama club. KELLIE BARNES Kellie Barnes was chosen as the Business Sterling Scholar for Cyprus. She qualified for this position because of her involvement in business law, type, shorthand, accounting, office machines, In addition to and word processing. these attributes, Kellie works at Ruff Tuff Products as the secretary. She deals with typing, accounts receivable and payable, and computer work. Kellie is also the secretary for the National Honor Society and a member of FBLA. After graduation from high school, Kellie plans to attend the University of Utah to major in business administration. TONI SNOW In the division of Art, Toni Snow received the nomination from Cyprus. As would be expected, Tonis hobby is painting in addition to water skiing. Some of the awards and activities that qualified Toni for this nomination were her extensive work in designing and drawing the cover and theme pages of the yearbook. In addition to this, Toni has received several first place awards in art contests. When Toni graduates, she plans to further her education and gain a career specializing in commercial tivities Monica gives Cello lessons and is a member of the Jazz Band. After graduation, Monica plans to attend Brigham Young University to major in Music and Art. MONICA ROSBOROUGH Monica Rosborough has received the nomination from Cyprus to be the Sterling Scholar in music. Among Monica's many hobbies a few include playing the cello, drawing and painting. Monicas qualifications for this honor include her position as the principal of the Cyprus High School orchestra, and the assistant principal of both the Utah Youth Symphony and the Murray Symphony. By LuCINDA TIMMERMAN Hie Magna Chamber of Commerce is alive and well, and eating lunch at the Copper Club. Thursday the Magna Chamber of Commerce held one of its monthly meetings for the Magna business people. At the Chamber meetings, local business owners and representatives got together to help get to know one another, and get to know about each one of the businesses in the Magna area. Town problems are also discussed by the members and townspeople that represent the town council. The president of the Chamber is Brent Huish. At the meeting on last Thursday, representatives from Hercules were the guest speakers. Also, at the beginning of the meeting, Mrs. La Ree Pehrson spoke on a proposed zoning change for the west side of Magna, and let the chamber know how the town council felt about the zoning change. The Chamber is also sponsoring a race this Fourth of July, and also the new Magna City was mentioned , but nott discussed in detail . The townspeople who attended last Thursdays meeting were, Dr. C.D. Clark, Keitth Hess (owner of Cyprus Construction Company), Tom Aston, Jim Foster, Bob Jeppson, Rusty Patterson, Brent Huish, LaRee Pehrson, Dee Peel, Harold Bullock, Roger Adams, Roy Smith, Dorothy Merrill, Sgt. Bruce Millet and Joe Ribotto, six guests were present .
