Everyone stood as President Spencer W. Kimball and his counselors N. Eldon Tanner, Marion G. Romney, and Gordon B. Hinckley took their places on the platform joining other general authorities. Marion G. Romney conducted the program. We bid all welcome on this special day, he began. Musical selections were provided by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir under the direction of Jerold D. Ottley. Newly sustained counselor in the first presidency, Gordon B. Hinckley, relative prosperity for our people. But how comparable their faith. It is a significant and wonderful thing that the members of the Church residing in this area have given of their means more than enoughto pay for the construction of this sacred house of the Lord, President Kinckley stated. I repeat what I said at the groundbreaking of this temple two This valley will be years ago: families will be our preserved, protected, and our children will be safeguarded as we live the gospel, visit the temple, and live close to the Lord. President Kimball spoke a few words just prior to the actual cornerstone laying. Following a number by the Choir, the first presidency and general authority made their way to the northeastern corner of the Temple where the cornerstone, in position, waited for the final mortar to seal it into place. The spirit-fille- d program was brought to a close by the singing of a musical number and the pronouncing of the benedicition by Jordan River Temple President Don H. Van Dam. They have been staying during the weeks with Eva and Alex Adamson in Holladay and come out to Magna on the weekends to spent time with the Francisco Arreola family. Both hosts families have provided the opportunity for them to travel and experience many things new to them. Ingrid, a graduate of the university in Belgium, earned her degree in industrial chemistry and will be seeking employment upon her return. Patrick will be entering the University in Antwerp to pursue a four-yea- r program in ecnomics. To continue with their first impressions of America, Ingrid explained that their cities are much more compact with many people living within in relatively small area. The wide open spaces here have surprised them. we like the sun, inserted Patrick. Weve gone to holidays in Spain where it is warm, Ingrid stated, but went on to say that it usually isnt possible to get much of a tan in her native land. During their last few days here Ingrid plans to take some sun baths, get a tan, and surprise my friends back home. Getting to Salt Lake City was a plane ride that saw them leave MAGNA Brussels, lands briefly in New York, and continue to Utah. After resting up a day or so they enjoyed a tour of salt Lake City including the capitol and Temple Square. Their first experience at a rodeo found them at the Days of 47 event. When they thought of the west, Ingrid explained, they envisioned such events so were quite anxious to witness it for themselves. I liked that, informed Ingrid as she talked of the horses and bulls. Rodeos are something from here, it would be stupid to do that in Europe, she continued. We do have parades back home, Ingrid informed, but nothing as big as yours. They were able to see the entire Days pf 47 Parade and were quite impressed with the colors and floats. A weekend camping trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons with the Arreolas was a memorable event for both of them. Patrick had been camping before but Ingrid had never gone camping and admitted that she did enjoy it, with a few reservations. As they explained, their country does not contain such big forest and parks so they were quite impressed, also thrilled to have seen a moose, elk, and a wolf by night crossing the road. They saw Old Faithful, something they had read about before but as Ingrid put it, it was so nice to see it in person. A drive near Quake Lake allowed to see where the earthquake had done much damage some years ago. That trip included a visit to Nevada city and Virginia City in Montana.
