An outstanding feature of the tournament exceptional manshiplike was the sports- conduct exhibited by all the teams. According to tournament officials there was never a questioning comment from any of the players and each team showed respect for game officials and for each other. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Da- y Saints places a high emphasis on in fact, sportsmanship; according to the Athletic Handbook of the Church, is Sportsmanship essential; as the most important single ingredient of the Church. ..athletic program, it should be given major emphasis. Typical of the directors were two separate events in different games, where players corrected calls by the referees, who thought balls had landed inside the playing court, when in fact, the balls were out of two bounds. These corrections actually resulted in lost points for the teams who volunteered the corrections. Such conduct is not uncommon in Church athletics. The tournament went extremely well under the planning and direction of Jill Wadsworth, Magna Utah Stake Y.W. Sports director. Jill was assisted in the officiating by her sister, Diane Wadsworth, from the Magna Stake, Kris Elder, Chris Ricks, and Jody Lougy, of the Magna Central Stake, and Susan Brown, Leslie Roberts and Tracy Lohmeyer, of the Magna East Stake. Other leaders from each stake assisted in scoring and timekeeping. Trophies were presented to the first and second place teams, and the third place team received the gameball, following the final game. Jill Wadsworth congratulated all the teams for their competitive play and fine sportsmanship. She also announced that Young Women basketball will begin in February. careful k.
