Show Magna Times, September c Planning and Zoning Commission Told Agreement Is Made By Lois Knutsen SALT LAKE CITY The Salt Lake County Planning and Zoning Com- - . mission approved Ivory and Com- panys application to develop land in Magna subject to working with the county attorney on the correct wording of certain terms. The meeting was held Tuesday morning, September 9. Representatives from both Ivory and Company and the Magna East Community Park Association were present to voice their agreement to cooperate with one another. Ivory and Company spokesman, Howard Kent, said they had met with various Magna community leaders and have worked out an equitable compromise. They propose to give those interested parties time to see if they can raise the developers cost per acre of $20,000 so that the 24 acre rodeo grounds could be used for recreational development. In turn, they are asking that the area on 3100 S. be zoned Agreement on Ivorys part would R-l-- 7. L include creating easements in order to maintain the plum trees on the north side of the property. If the interested parties are not able to purchase the land then that 24 acre piece reverts back to the original 6 zoning. If the land is bought, then they wish to increase the density of their development on the rest of the land so as to make up for the loss. They were asked by the commission how much support might be forthcoming from the community should a special mill levy be asked in order to raise the necessary money. By Lois Knutsen A letter written by HUNTER Hunter Council president, Gearld Wright, to be presented to the com- missioners of West Valley City regarding Hunters planning and zoning, was a featured item of business. Council members met at the home of Judy Larson on Thursday, September 4, to discuss the letter, as well as take up other matters of business. R-l-- recreational needs in the community had been initially proposed in July by W. Kent Goble, board member of the new park association. This was an effort by the Magna Community Councils newly formed Community Youth Committee to centralize a variety of important recreational needs for the community while preserving the rodeo facilities. Howeyer, it was the announcement by IVory1 and Company of their Intention to build a subdivision on the rodeo grounds property that proved the sudden catalyst that brought a multitude of concerned residents together in support of preserving the area as a multipurpose park. On August 5, residents met to discuss their opposition and alternatives to pursue. On August 12, the East Magna Community Park Association was formally incorporated and a formal presentation made to the County Planning and Zoning Commission. Endorsements have been received from a variety of organizations and individuals. There is considerable Planning and Zoning Grave concerns about planning and zoning in West Valley City were outlined. The matter of proposed rezoning from single to multiple units was stated and possible fears for the devaluation of existing property and the change in ones home lifestyle expressed. The letter suggests, and the Council unanimously concurred, that the city stop all approvals for multiple unit dwelling permits until January 1, 1982. It was believed that this would give the new city time to develop a master plan so that responsible zoning could be affected! Committee Reports Ken Rasmussen, chairman of the Community Development committee, reported that the income survey taken in the surrounding areas of Hunter and Woodledge Parks has been completed. Mrs. Matheson arrived after entertainment by the Magna Melodiers, the senior citizens band. She told the large gathering she was happy to be in Magna again and she ' was sorry her husband, Utah Governor Scott Matheson, could not be there. Mrs. Matheson explained he was hosting a Western Governors Conference in Park City. Lunch was served after the musical entertainment and speakers. 1980, Page 3 New City Urged to Draw Master Plan Park Association Makes Plans to Purchase Land By Kent Goble MAGNA The development of a Lake in the Ridge East Magna park area moved a step closer to reality with the announcement by the Salt Lake County Planning and Zoning Commission, September 9, 1980. An arrangement had been agreed upon between the commission, Ivory and 'Company,1 and "the East '"Magna ' Community Park Association for thp " lafeqtiteltibif p of B the rotied "grounds ow property by the Association and the community of Magna for a proposed park. The arrangements came after a month of intensive efforts by citizens of the community to halt proposed development of the rodeo grounds as a subdivision and preservation of the area for a park. Hundreds of hours have been contributed by many persons to accomplish this first objective in making the park a reality.
