MARCH 16. 1978 THE I'AGt MAGNA TIMES Hunter 12th Ward Sustains New Bishop, Counselors LDS Presidency Expresses Thoughts For Easter Time SALT LAKE CITY -- The glory of Easter is the Risen Savior, the Light and the Life of the world, said the First Presidency, chief governing lx)dy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints y (Mormon) for Easter, 1978. "In His triumph over death, Jesus Christ dispelled the deep darkness of the crucifiction on Calvary. In His resurrection, He arose in power and beauty and life, the first fruits of all who slept, the assurance for all mankind of all ages that as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (I Corinthians 15:22) The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a reality. Through His divine sacrifice, we may achieve the greatest of all gifts - eternal life, as affirmed in the scriptural declaration: For behold, this is My work and My glory - to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. (Moses 1:39) In gratitude we commend to all, this Easter and always, the prayerful, daily, lifelong study of the scriptures concerning Him of whom the Eternal Father declared: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. (Matthew 17:5) Let us hear Him, that we may know that Jesus Christ became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.' (Hebrews 5:8-9- ) Let us hear Him, being not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. (Romans 1:16) Let us hear Him, knowing that if we suffer, we shall also reign with Him. Let us hear Him, by shunning profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more godliness. Yes, hear Him, and flee youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace . . be gentle unto all men, apt to fering in Gethsemane and upon the cross the atoning sacrifice by which all mankind may be saved. . teach, patient . . .
