He began to wonder as the day grew older, if this I wasnt Kansas City, Missouri and I a Republican nomination convention or could this be Montreal, Canada and the signal for the grand Olympic Games to begin. d But for each Magna faithful and residents surrounding this historical com-Kb-- Z I munity, they realized this was just another colorful and booming July 4th celebration, with the ad . xj pre-inscrib- ed true-bloode- 'A W y !(?h ded zeal of Americas bicentennial birthday. The excitement that generated from Magnas celebration last Monday, brought out electrical shocks that paralyzed the crowds with feelings of patriotism and attitudes of having one big ball. Of course this wasnt the Republican convention or the coveted Olym- - By Keith Duncan pics, but it wasnt all that bad to think of it that way. The July 5 celebration was termed by numerous officials as the largest and most successful in the history of Magna. It was reported that over 20,000 people turned out for the days festivities. Chairman of the July 4th celebrations, Lloyd Beck, stated after the memorable day, It had to be the greatest celebration that Magna has ever had and will have in many years to come. Everything planned was a success. Im sure the 20,000 people who attended, really enjoyed their day. The July 5th celebrations were sponsored by the union of Magna Firemen and the local American Legion. Charles Chick Paris, who serves as the Salt Lake county Fire Chief, acted as chairman of the breath-takin- g parade that commenced at noon. Chief Paris owns and operates a business in Magna.
