Inflation Exacts Its Toll The postal strike, involving 50,000 workers in the New York in adjoining states, is an example of what the public can demands if for wage increases are not met to meet spiralexpect, ing costs. Striking against the postal department or against the government has long been deemed an impossibility, but when 50,000 to 100,000 men, through their union representatives, move into action, anything can happen. And it did. A postal strike could easily paralyze this nation, government, business and industry. The net result will be an increase in wages, then higher postal costs and another big scoop into the federal treasury to make up a still greater deficit in the operation of the and areas postal department. There has been LAKE PARK Bathing Resort Pavilion in the 1880s. The building was moed to Lagoon for its opening Jul 12, 1896. It was in ed as a dance pavilion aril later for roller skating. At the present time, the cupola (top structure) serves as the Rose Terrace. The building, now known as the Theater Terrace, is used for large picnic groups. It is being extensively restored and decorated for Lagoons 75th year of fun. This would not be a means of retaliation against the strikers, but because of the reality that Uncle Sam cannot continue to operate the mail service at a constantly growing loss. Government burdens the mail department with thousands of pieces of free mail every day. As bureaucracy grows, as new plans are devised upon federal funds for the growing number of services which our people demand, this, too, will become increasingly costly. An efficiently operated mail service is an important part of our economy. Every business, every home needs it. It was never intended to operate at a profit. At the same time, it cannot continue to be operated at an increasing loss without dipping into federal funds. a QUOTES OF NOTE Great opportunities come to all, but many do not know they have met them.
