Show Thursday, May 1, 1969 MAGNA TIMES, Magna, Utah Granite School District Resolution On the Sale of Building Bonds Salt Lake City, Utah April 22, 1969 The Board of Education of Granite School District, Salt Lake County. Utah, met in special session on April 22, 1969, at its office at 340 East 3545 South in Salt Lake City, Utah, at 5:00 oclock P.M., due, legal and timely notice of said meeting having been given to all members as required by law and the rules of the board. The meeting was called to order by the Vice President. On roll call, the following members, constituting a quorum, were present: Mr. Hugh W. Pinnock Mrs. Howard B. Summerhays Mr. Richard W. Winder Mr. William B. Martin Keith C. Brown, President Absent: There was also present Brian t G. Badger, Clerk. Vice President: Member: Member: Member: After the conduct of other business, the Clerk presented the bids which had been received for the purchase of $2,500,000 School Building Bonds, Series of June 1, 1969, of said board, as follows: America at The Northern Trust Company in the City of Chicago, Illinois. This bond is one of a scries of $2,500,000 bonds of like date and tenor, except as to maturity and interest rate, issued for the purpose of raising money for purchasing school sites, for building or pu.-- lasing one or more school houses and supplying the same with furniture and necessary apparatus, and for improving school property under the charge if the Board of Education, and is issued under and pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution and laws of the State of Utah, including particularly the Utah Muncipal Bond Act, Chapter 14 of Title 11, Utah Code Annotated, 1953, as amended, after having been authorized at an election held on June 6, 1967, in said district by vote of the qualified electors of said district who had paid a property tax therein in the year next preceding said election. The Board of Education of Granite School District covenants and is by law required to levy annually a sufficient tax to pay the interest on this bond as it falls due and also to constitute a sinking fund for the payment of the principal thereof as the same falls due. this bond is within every debt and other limit prescribed by the Constitution and laws of ".aid state, and that the full faith and credit of said Board of Education of Granite School District are hereby irrevocably pledged to the punctual payment of the principal of and interest on this bond, according to its terms. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the Board of Education of Granite School District, Salt Lake County, State of Utah, has caused this bond to be signed by its President and attested by its Clerk (the signature of said President being by facsimile) and has caused the RESOLUTION authorizing the issuance of $2,500,000 School Building Bonds, Scries of June 1, 1969, of the Board of Education of Granite School District, Salt Lake County, Utah, providing for the levy of taxes to pay principal of and interest on said bonds, and confirming the sale of said facsimile of the corporate seal of said Board of Education of Granite School District to be imprinted hereon, and the annexed coupons to be signed with the facsimile signatures of its President and its Clerk, which officials by .he execution hereof do adopt as and for their own proper signatures their facsimile signatures appearing on each of said coupons, all as of the first day of June, 1969. WHEREAS at a special bond election duly and lawfully called and held in Granite School District, Salt Lake County, Utah, on June 6, 1967, the issuance of $12,500,000 bonds was authorized for the purpose of raising money for purchasing school sites, for building or purchasing one or mere school houses and supplying the same with furniture and necessary apparatus, and for improving school property under the charge of the Board of Education, the result of which election was declared by the Board of Education, sitting as a Board of Canvassers, on June 13, 1967; and WHEREAS $8,780,000 of the bonds so voted at said election have heretofore been issued and delivered, and it has been determined to authorize the issuance and sale of $2,500,000 of said bonds at this time; and WHEREAS an offer inviting sealed bids for the purchase of said $2,500,000 bonds has been brought to the attention of potential purchasers and the bids received have been tabulated and considered and it has been determined and found that the bid of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, New York, and associates, is the highest and best bid re eived for the purchase of said bonds, which offer proposes to purchase said bonds at the price of par and accrued interest to the date of delivery, plus a premium of $107, said bonds to bear interest at the rates hereinafter in this resolution set out; and WHEREAS the board has offered said bonds to the Department of Finance of the State of Utah and has received from said department a waiver of its rights to purchase such bonds; NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Board of Education of Granite School District, Salt Lake County, State of Utah: Section 1. That under authority of Chapter 14 of Title 11, Utah Code Annotated, 1953, as amended, otherwise known as the Utah Municipal Bond Act, there shall be issued by said board bonds in the amount of $2,500,000 for the purpose of raising money for purchasing school sites, for building or purchasing one or more school houses, and supplying the same with furniture and necessary apparatus, and for improving school property under the charge of the Board of Education. That said bonds shall be known as "School Buildof June 1, 1969," shall be in the denomination Series ing Bonds, of $5,000 each, numbered 1 to 500, inclusive, dated June 1, 1969, shall bear interest from their date until paid at the rate or rates hereinafter specified, said interest being payable June 1, 1970 and thereafter on the first days of June and December of each year, and shall fall due serially in numerical order, without option of prior redemption, on June 1 of each of the years, and bear interest as follows: Section semi-annual- 2. ly BOND NUMBERS 1 to 300 301 to 500 AMOUNT $1,500,000 1.000,000 INTEREST RATE YEAR 4.809r 4.70(7 1977 1978 Both principal of and interest on said bonds shall be payable in lawful money of the United States of America at The Northern Trust Company, in the City of Chicago, Illinois. Said bonds shall be signed by the President and attested by the Clerk of the Board of Education (the signature of said President being by facsimile) and shall have the facsimile of the corporate seal of said board imprinted thereon, and shall have coupons for interest attached, which coupons shall be signed with the printed facsimile signatures of the President and Clerk of the Board of Education, and the preparation of said printed facsimiles of said President and Clerk upon said coupons is hereby adopted by the board as the authorized and authentic signing of said coupons by said officials. Section 3. Thereupon, the following resolution was introduced in written form by Mrs. Howard B. Summerhays, who moved its adoption. The resolution was read in full and is as follows : Attest: Mr. William B. That all covenants, statements, representations and agreements contained ;n said bonds and coupons, and all recitals and representations fn this resolution and order, are hereby considered and understood and it is hereby resolved that all said covenants, statements, representations and agreements of said school district, are the covenants, statements, representations and agreements of the Board of Education of Granite School District, Salt Lake County, Utah. Section 6. That to pay the interest falling due on said bonds as the same becomes due, and also to provide a sinking fund for the payment of principal of said bonds at maturity, there shall be levied on all taxable property in Granite School District, in addition to all other taxes, a direct annual tax sufficient to pay the interest on said bonds and to pay and retire the same as hereinbefore provided. Said taxes when collected shall be applied solely for the purpose of the payment of said interest on and principal of said bonds, respectively, and for no other purpose whatsoever until the indebtedness so contracted under this resolution, principal and interest, shall have been fully paid, satisfied and discharged, but nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to prevent said district from applying any other funds that may be in the district treasury and available for that purpose to the payment of said interest and principal as the same respectively mature, and the levy or levies herein provided for may thereupon to that extent be diminished, and the sums herein provided for to meet the interest on said bonds and to discharge the principal thereof when due, are hereby appropriated for that purpose, and the required amount for each year shall be included by the Board of Education in its annual budget and its statement and estimate as certified to the Board of County Commissioners in each year. Principal or interest falling due at any time when there shall not be available from the proceeds of said levies money sufficient for the payment thereof shall, to the extent of such deficiency, be paid from other funds of the Board of Education available for such purpose, and such other funds reimbursed when the proceeds of said levies become Section 7. That the sale of said $2,500,000 School Building Bonds, Series of June 1, 1969, at the price of par and accrued interest to the date of delivery, plus a premium of $107 is hereby confirmed. The Treasurer of the Board of Education is hereby instructed to make delivery of such bonds to the purchasers thereof as soon as may conveniently be after the adoption of the resolution confirming sale and to receive payment therefor in accordance with the terms of sale and to set the proceeds of said sale aside into a separate fund to be used for the purposes for which the bonds are herein authorized. Section 8. That this resolution shall be published one time in The Magna Times, a newspaper published and of general circulation in Granite School District. Section 9. in That all resolutions and orders or parts thereof conflict with the provisions hereof are hereby repealed. Adopted and approved this 22nd day of April, 1969. The Senior High and College age Utah Baptist Youth Fellowship (BYF) convention, held over the weekend at Moab, Utah, was attended by local people, Lonnie Jones, Debbie Burgess, Mrs. Eugene Hogue and Mrs. Kenneth Edwards, representatives of the First Baptist Community Church in Magna. Theme of the parley was Crunch in the Church Whats New? The Rev. Curtis Johnson, editor of Impact, a magazine published for the young people by the American Baptist Convention, watf guest speaker. Rev. Johnson explained how complicated the world is getting by comparing the local to the detailed workings of a big business such as RCA. He then asked the question, What Is the Church Role in a Changing World? The convention of about 100 young people from all over the state of Utah and the BYF Idaho state officers divided into groups and discussed that question before breaking for the evening to enjoy a special program presented by the University of Utah Mens Chorus. The convention began with registration Friday evening as cars from all over the state arrived. Chicken dinner was served before the first orientation votional service by the Salt Lake First Baptist BYF; a business session, led by BYF State President Carol F. Cox; a feedback, discussion and period of time for members of the various groups to become better acquainted with each other; election of new officers for 1969-7break for lunch. On Saturday afternoon, the convention enjoyed a boat trip up the Colorado River into the newly formed Arches National Park. Everyone went hiking and a picnic was later served. The Clearfield BYF gave a special campfire program of explaining the Lords Prayer, and a musical group, called The Group, Grand Junction, Colo., led a community sing and entertainment with special numbers. All boarded the boat back to Moab as the sun was setting. The convention ended Sunday with Rev. Curtis Johnson giving the final presentation and summing up what the young people had discussed, the installation of newly elected state officers, led by Terry Sue McGee, and a special communion service by Rev.
